Divya Kala Mela being hosted in Hyderabad to empower specially abled artisans

7th October 2023

The festival, which serves as a marketing and exhibiting platform for Divyangjan (PWD) items and abilities, will include diverse products from around the country, ranging from Jammu and Kashmir to North Eastern states to the South, West, and East. Handicrafts, handlooms, embroidery works, packaged meals, and other products are examples.

Previously, the Divya Kala Mela was held in places such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bhopal, Guwahati, Indore, Jaipur, and Varanasi.

At the event, around 100 Divyang craftsmen and entrepreneurs from approximately 20 states and Union Territories across the country would showcase their products and abilities. Items in categories such as home décor & lifestyle, apparel, stationery, eco-friendly products, packaged food and organic products, toys & presents, personal accessories such as jewelry, clutch bags, and so on are included. It will provide an opportunity for everyone to shop locally and support particularly abled craftsmen.

Divya Kala Mela

The ten-day ‘Divya Kala Mela’ will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Aside from product presentation and sales, the event will feature a variety of cultural activities, including performances by Divyangjan artists and well-known professionals. At the event, visitors can also sample cuisines from various parts of the country.

The Government of India continues to take steps to empower the specially abled ‘Divyangjan’. On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the country’s first high-tech sports training center for Divyangjan in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, named after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. During the event, the Prime Minister also announced a number of other initiatives.

The Atal Bihari Training Centre for Disability Sports is a cutting-edge institution dedicated to the development and training of athletes with disabilities. It is an autonomous organisation formed by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment’s Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan).

Aims and Objectives of the centre:

  1. To build a cutting-edge worldwide level Centre of Excellence for Sports for Paraathletes (PwDs) with complete accessibility in accordance with standards.
  2. To build specialized sports infrastructure so that para athletes can receive rigorous and specialized training at the Centre.
  3. To offer Divyang athletes with training facilities that are on par with the best available elsewhere in the globe.
  4. To increase Divyangjan engagement in sports activities and enable them to participate effectively in international tournaments.
