GHCL Foundation Trust extends Corporate Social Responsibility activities in Tamil Nadu

GHCL Foundation Trust, Ghcl Limited’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm, has expanded its CSR efforts in Tamil Nadu’s Madurai district and Manapparai town under the municipality of Tiruchirappalli. Agriculture and animal husbandry, health, education, and women empowerment are the primary target areas of CSR operations.

The CSR projects were launched in 2019-20 with a primary focus on health, affecting more than 500 lives initially, followed by more than 11,000 in 2020-21, over 14,000 in 2021-22, and more than 15,000 lives in Madurai and Manapparai in 2022-23.

More than 45,000 lives were impacted across Madurai and Manapparai by the conclusion of FY 2022-23 in the areas of health, agriculture and animal husbandry, education and skill development, and women empowerment.

CSR projects in the areas of health, education, and skill development for the community are carried out on a regular basis in response to community needs as identified through field visits/ and through partners (government line departments). GHCL Foundation also has complete Need Assessment reports for reference.

These programmes have predetermined targets and outcomes based on numerous parameters for identification and assessment, with the goal of improving and developing the lives of people living in communities near plant locations. Some of the major projects that contribute to the overall development of both employees and the community are health awareness camps, sanitation, water purification, livelihood development assistance, school education assistance, women empowerment programmes, and so on.

The GHCL Foundation works with the rural community in both direct and indirect ways. GHCL Foundation teams organise the rural community by motivating volunteers and conducting need-based intervention programmes in collaboration with government ministries as ‘Knowledge Partners’.

Mr. Balakrishnan R, CEO of GHCL Textiles Limited, commented on the impact of continuing CSR programmes, saying, “GHCL Foundation has always been at the forefront of spearheading CSR activities on the ground that help underprivileged rural families achieve social status.” We also strive for holistic community development and are committed to offering assistance in a variety of ways. We have made a significant contribution to community self-sufficiency by focusing on agricultural and animal husbandry, health, education, and women’s empowerment. We will continue similar activities in trash management and organic farming as needed by the community.”

GHCL Foundation has collaborated with NGOs such as HelpAge India for ‘Mobile Health Unit’ services in Manapparai; Family Planning Association of India (FPAI) on rural health and sanitation programmes; Formation of Educational Development Centre for Rural Organisation and Training (FEDCROT) for skill training programmes for women empowerment and adolescent girls; and Annai Institute of Vocational Training (AIT) for Skill training for women.
