HelpAge India new mobile healthcare program in Kochi supported by Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore

New Delhi, India: Helpage India, a non-governmental organisation that addresses the needs of vulnerable elders, has launched a Mobile Healthcare Unit (MHU) in Kerala’s Ernakulam district, with financial support from Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore Limited (FACT), a PSU under the Department of Fertilisers, Union Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers.

“The newly launched MHU in Ernakulam district will serve Eloor Municipality and four gramme panchayats, namely Kadamakudy, Varapuzha, Alangad, and Cheranallore.” Every year, the MHU will provide medical assistance to roughly 20,000 elders, the majority of whom are village elders and disadvantaged citizens of Eloor municipality. “We are grateful to Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore Limited for providing financial support for this noble cause,” stated Rohit Prasad, CEO of Helpage India.

“The need for MHU was felt in this region because primary healthcare centres are sometimes located far from villages.” The MHU van, which is staffed by nurses, medical personnel, and doctors, will fill this need by providing crucial doorstep healthcare to vulnerable elders. “We value our collaboration with FACT on this critical community and public health initiative under CSR,” he added.

Mr.Kishor Rungta, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Kochi-based FACT Ltd., launched the Health Care services and flagged off the MHU from FACT Ltd’s container gate here in the presence of Mr. Rohit Prasad.

“We are proud to support HelpAge India’s healthcare programme for disadvantaged elderly in Ernakulam by establishing a Mobile Healthcare Unit for the elderly and their community.” “FACT Ltd. has an 80-year legacy of public service, and we are pleased that through this association, we will help senior citizens in remote areas gain access to primary healthcare and meet their health needs,” stated Mr. Kishor Rungta.

HelpAge manages Asia’s largest mobile healthcare programme. With this addition, the total strength of HelpAge India’s MHU network across the country has increased to 162. Every year, MHUs give medical relief and treatment to over 4 lakh underprivileged elders and their communities.

HelpAge India’s mobile healthcare project spares poor elders from long lines at hospitals, as well as transportation and medication expenditures. It distributes free medication on a weekly basis with the help of partners like FACT. Beneficiaries are given health cards, and records of their treatment are kept.

HelpAge, through these MHUs, provides not only free therapy and drugs, but also basic diagnostics, home visits by doctors (in the case of bedridden patients), and counselling for patients, the aged, family members, and carers.
