The minister stated that all nuclear power plant sites, including Kalpakkam and Kudankulam in Tamilnadu, have procedures in place for the safe storage and management of spent fuel and nuclear and radioactive wastes. This was in response to a question in the Rajya Sabha.

“IAEA inspectors in Kudankulam monitor the security of stored spent fuel because the fuel is protected by IAEA regulations. Spent fuel storage pools are created in accordance with AERB regulations, which are compliant with global regulatory standards.
