Dana India Bets on Electric Transition in 2 or 3-Wheelers

Dana India Bets on Electric Transition

According to Gajanan Gandhe, Country Head and Vice President of Dana India, the two- and three-wheeled vehicle market in India would switch to all-electric vehicles by 2030.

According to him, Dana is making significant investments in e-mobility, from design and development through testing and validation. At the recently concluded E-Mobility Forum, which was put on by Messe Frankfurt and NGV India Submit, Gandhe made these remarks.

The Dana VP added that while the forum believed that e-mobility in India would develop at a 10% CAGR through 2030, this would be a bit of a stretch for all categories. High power motorbikes, three-wheelers, and SCV/luggage haulers, which he referred to as “high efficiency high value items,” are thought to present a promising potential by his company.

According to Gandhe, biofuel will experience strong development together with other alternate fuels like as CNG, which are thought to be better in terms of usability and operating costs.

Hydrogen for large cars, however, is still a long way off. He continued, “I don’t believe there are enough technology, production, or even distribution for hydrogen. All of these characteristics are still in the “nascent stage” and won’t be fully developed for at least five years.

According to Gandhe, the Indian startup ecosystem, combined with well-established OEMs and component producers, can be crucial in assisting the automobile industry in reaching the Centre’s targets of 7% of total GDP.

Dana India is also funding initiatives on various forms of sustainability. According to him, the parent firm has identified efforts in the US, Europe, and India and has declared its intention to become 50% carbon neutral by 2030.

Dana is considering using renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind, to increase production efficiencies through better machine and fuel utilization. In order to achieve the worldwide CO2 reduction goal, the Indian arm is also taking into consideration programmes for tree plantations and rainwater collection.

All 18 manufacturing facilities, according to Gandhe, have been ordered to complete numerous small-scale sustainability projects in addition to major ones. In order to lower the carbon footprint and increase operational cost-efficiency, Dana India has identified six key areas.
