Interpol and Mumbai Police collaborate to prevent suicide after Google Search alert

Mumbai PoliceFollowing an Interpol notice about his searches for information on the ‘best way to commit suicide’ on Google, a 28-year-old man in Mumbai, India, was tracked down and prevented from committing himself.

In some circumstances, Google works with Interpol to prevent suicides by warning them when someone searches for such sensitive topics on their site. Following that, the search engine behemoth shares the individual’s Internet Protocol (IP) address with the relevant law enforcement agency in the concerned country.

The man, originally from Rajasthan, was apprehended in the Malvani area on Tuesday after police tracked him down using the mobile number provided by Interpol.

Interpol is a global organization that promotes international police cooperation and crime control.

“The operation to rescue the individual was executed by Unit-11 of the Mumbai Police’s crime branch following Interpol’s information on Tuesday afternoon,” said a police official.

“The victim is from Rajasthan and lives in Malvani in Malad West.” “It was discovered during our investigation that he was under immense pressure due to his inability to secure his mother’s release from a Mumbai jail, where she had been detained in connection with a criminal case two years prior,” he said.

The man had previously lived in the Mira Road neighborhood of Thane’s Thane district before migrating to Malvani, a western suburb.

“He had been unemployed for six months.” He had fallen into a profound despair as a result of his inability to win his mother’s release from jail. “When thoughts of suicide crossed his mind, he turned to online searches to find information on committing suicide,” the official explained.

He repeatedly typed ‘Suicide best technique’ into Google, drawing the attention of Interpol officials. They immediately submitted an email to the Mumbai police, including the man’s phone number.

The crime branch was able to determine that the mobile phone user was in Malvani based on this information.

“As a result, the police arrived at the scene quickly.” “The victim was taken into custody and counseled,” the official explained.

He was encouraged to visit his relatives’ home in the city for further assistance and care after obtaining expert counseling.
