The UGC has also built a dedicated portal for faculty members to enrol for capacity-building programs in order to aid this transformative journey.

Minister Dharmendra Pradhan emphasized the need of instilling quality and excellence in instructors and teaching methods when launching the training program. He also stated that Human Resource Development Centres (HRDCs) will be renamed Madan Mohan Malaviya Teachers’ Training Centres. He stated that this program will enable continuous professional development and assist in the capacity building of 15 lakh HEI instructors through 111 Malaviya Mission centers across India in a timely way.

He remarked that the Program is an effort to prepare our educators for the future by providing them with a better understanding of Indian principles. It intends to increase the quality of teacher training, develop teachers’ leadership qualities, and assist in achieving the goals of the National Education Policy, he noted.

  1. Sanjay Murthy, Secretary, Higher Education, Ministry of Education, mentioned three major themes that were discussed during India’s G20 presidency: deployment of technology in education, achieving sustainable development goals, and women-led development, which will be incorporated into Teachers Training Programmes. He praised the UGC for carefully developing the programs that will aid in the empowerment of the country’s educators.

Meanwhile, on the occasion of Teachers’ Day on September 5, 2023, the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, presented National Awards to teachers from across the country at a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.

The goal of the National Teachers’ Award is to recognize teachers for their distinctive contributions to the country and to honor those instructors who, by their commitment and dedication, have not only increased the quality of education but also impacted the lives of their pupils. Each award comes with a certificate of merit, Rs. 50,000 in cash, and a silver medal. The recipients will also have the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
