The HCL Foundation, which implements HCL Tech’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy in India, and the Tamil Nadu Police Department have expanded their successful relationship to empower children living in urban slums.
The ambitious project would help 25,000 youngsters in the North and South Chennai districts by being executed across 29 slum communities. This program strives to provide impoverished children with a complete platform as well as a nurturing environment. After-school and digital education, support services, sports, health, the environment, scouts and guides, and child rights activism are among the initiative’s primary focal areas.
Children living in these urban enclaves face distinct psychosocial obstacles, which are exacerbated by the inherent challenges of childhood and adolescence. According to research, concentrated poverty within neighborhoods significantly limits opportunities for social interaction, access to positive role models, and essential resources such as quality education, healthcare, parks, and playgrounds – all of which are critical components for fostering robust child development.
Tamil Nadu Police
Greater Chennai City Commissioner of Police, Shri Sandeep Rai Rathore, On the occasion of the extension of the Memorandum of Understanding between Tamil Nadu Police and HCLTech.MoU, Shri K. Shankar, Commissioner of Police, Avadi, Shri A. Amalraj, Commissioner of Police, Tambaram, and Dr Nidhi Pundhir, Vice President, Global CSR, HCLFoundation, were present.
“By providing a holistic platform for these disadvantaged children, we are nurturing the seeds of transformation that will eventually flourish into a brighter future,” said Dr Nidhi Pundhir, Vice President, Global CSR, HCLFoundation. “Through community-centric activities, the HCL Foundation remains steadfast in its commitment to rehabilitating child laborers, street children, women, and youth from Chennai’s slums.”
