RailTel bags Work order for Telecom infra

Telecom infra – RailTel Corporation of India Ltd, a Mini Ratna PSU under the Ministry of Railways, has been awarded a Work Order from Pimpri Chinchwad Smart City Limited (PCSCL) for the provision of end-to-end services for the monetisation of PCSCL City Network Infrastructure on a “Revenue Sharing Model” for a period of ten years. 

RailTel has received the first-of-its-kind order to monetise a Smart City’s telecom infrastructure.   

The city of Pimpri Chinchwad is located in the Pune metropolitan area and is the eighteenth most populated city in India and the fifth-largest in the state of Maharashtra. RailTel will generate revenue through lease deals during the monetization process. The estimated annual revenue is Rs 70 crores, with a total revenue of Rs 700 crores over a ten-year period.

RailTel will pay PCSCL 32.4 Cr in fixed revenue each year. Furthermore, RailTel must pay PCSCL a minimum of 21% of the total increased revenue produced over the next ten years.  

The project also includes the establishment of a Network Operation Centre (NOC), the operation and maintenance of existing digital infrastructure connecting citizens, government, business, and communities, and the future extension of PCSCL network infrastructure, as well as operations and maintenance activities over a 10-year period. Furthermore, the project entails making the PCSCL self-sustaining and evolving its creditworthiness in order to raise new resources from the market.
