CBSE bans use of ChatGPT in board exams

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is the most recent educational institution to outright prohibit the use of ChatGPT.

ChatGPT is a language model created by OpenAI, a pioneer in artificial intelligence research. The model is based on a transformer neural network architecture, which allows it to generate human-like responses to natural language inputs.

According to the latest instructions released by the board ahead of the examinations, “Mobile, ChatGPT and other electronic items will not be permitted in exam hall.”

While ChatGPT cannot search the internet, it is built on a massive language model that students may be able to use with the right prompts.

“Students are not permitted to bring any electronic devices into the exam centre. This includes using a device to access ChatGPT in order to avoid using unfair means “According to a senior board official.

ChatGPT has already been forbidden in some New York City and Seattle public schools, as well as at the French university Sciences Po and Bengaluru University.

Use of ChatGPT

One of ChatGPT’s distinguishing characteristics is its capacity to produce coherent and contextually relevant reactions to open-ended questions. For example, if you ask ChatGPT, “What is the meaning of life?” it will respond thoughtfully and engagingly. ChatGPT is ideal for conversational applications such as chatbots, virtual assistants, and customer service because of this feature.

ChatGPT could also be used for other tasks such as language translation, summarization, and text completion. If you give ChatGPT a prompt like “For along time,” it will generate an entire story based on that prompt.

The model’s skills are remarkable, but it is not without flaws. ChatGPT, like all language models, can produce biassed or improper responses if trained on biassed or inappropriate data.

To address this issue, OpenAI has incorporated a number of bias-mitigation measures in ChatGPT. They test the model on a variety of text data, for example, and used techniques such as device and adversarial training to minimize bias in the model’s output.
