Amazon introduced Amazon Air in India
Amazon on Monday launched Amazon Air in India in a bid to enhance the transportation network and facilitate faster deliveries.
The e-commerce giant plans to utilize full cargo capacity of a Boeing 737-800 plane and carry out deliveries in the cities of Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Delhi. Amazon has partnered with the Bengaluru-based cargo airline Quikjet to launch its maiden air freight service in the country.

As a result, Amazon is the first online retailer in India to collaborate with a different carrier to offer a specialized air network for deliveries.
Akhil Saxena, Vice President – Customer Fulfillment (APAC, MENA & LATAM), worldwide customer service, stated at the launch that “this launch will serve 1.1 million vendors in India.”

Also from him: “We keep making investments in speed. To strengthen the distribution network, we have made investments in delivery infrastructure. By doing this, we can transport products from our fulfilment centres to last-mile deliveries more quickly.”
However, it has been almost six years since Amazon Air first debuted in the USA. With more than 30 Boeing cargo aircraft, Amazon Air was first introduced in the United States in 2016 before being briefly tested there as well. It’s interesting to note that Prime Air, a different service offered by the e-commerce giant that uses drones to carry packages, has been labelled on Amazon’s air cargo planes in India.
Telangana’s Minister of Industry and Commerce, KT Rama Rao, attended the event in Hyderabad.
This comes after Amazon closed down three business operations in the nation in 2022 due to a global slowdown: wholesale distribution Amazon Distribution, food delivery Amazon Food, and its EdTech venture Academy.
Amazon’s direct rival in India is Flipkart, which is funded by Walmart.
As the world economy enters a recession, Amazon is experiencing difficult times on the international front like its counterparts. According to a Bloomberg report from last week, the e-commerce behemoth intends to remove personnel from its retail and human resources (HR) divisions. The article indicated that further teams will also be impacted, however there is currently little information available on these. Amazon has terminated hundreds of thousands of hourly warehousing and delivery workers in the United States.
