Microsoft – New leave policy is every employee’s dream

For most people, it is just a pipe dream, but for Microsoft employees in the US, things are a little different because the software giant will begin offering limitless vacation time to US workers next week. The news was announced by the corporation in an email to staff members.

In an email, Kathleen Hogan, chief people officer of Microsoft, announced that the policy will be known as “Discretionary Time Off.” “Our work schedules, locations, and methods have all altered significantly. A story in The Verge quotes Hogan as saying, “As we’ve changed, updating our vacation policy to a more flexible approach was a natural next step.

Additionally, there will be no waiting period for newly hired employees to begin accruing vacation time. Microsoft currently provides 10 corporate holidays, paid sick time, paid time off for mental health issues, and leaves of absence in addition to the unrestricted vacation policy. Additionally, they provide time off for jury duty or mourning.

All unused vacation leave balances will be paid out in full to employees in one lump sum in April.

However, only paid staff are eligible to use this new policy. The policy won’t be made available to Microsoft’s hourly employees.

Microsoft will start allowing more of its staff to work remotely on a regular basis in 2020. Additionally, it permitted workers to spend up to 50% of their workweeks working from home without restriction. Although employees who choose remote work must give up their office space, Microsoft’s offices nevertheless provide a touchdown area.

In addition to the tech giant, LinkedIn, owned by Microsoft, Oracle, Salesforce, and Netflix also provide similar unlimited vacation policies.
