Akasa Air – Launch of in-flight Safety Manual in Braille

The newest airline in India, Akasa Air, has just made its in-flight safety manual available in Braille for those who are blind or visually impaired. The Braille in-flight safety booklet includes an explanation of the safety rules, in English and Hindi, in keeping with the airline’s fundamental value of empathy and ensuring that everyone of our customers has a friendly and consistent experience. The Xavier’s Resource Centre for the Visually Impaired (XRCVC) and Akasa Air collaborated to create this Braille in-flight safety document.

The detailed instructions on seatbelt operation, locations of emergency exits and life jackets, tactile diagrams that help passengers become familiar with the aircraft and its positions, and other crucial safety information are all covered in the Braille in-flight safety manual that is made available to passengers onboard upon request.

The Xavier’s Resource Centre for the Visually Challenged (XRCVC), a division of St. Xavier’s College in Mumbai (www.xrcvc.org), is a national level support and advocacy centre for people with disabilities, according to Dr. Sam Taraporevala, Executive Director, XRCVC, who worked on the guidebook. In order to provide students with assistive technology help, XRCVC was established in 2003.
