A Residential Program Run By The Kalgidhar Society Empowers 1000+ Rural Women in Punjab

A Residential Program By Kalgidhar Society

The Kalgidhar Society – In India, the majority of people reside in rural areas. The rural areas of Punjab and Haryana, two states in northern India, have incredibly gorgeous and rich landscapes. However, the majority of people are unaware of their high dropout and illiteracy rates.

The neighbourhood fights against widespread drug use, female feticide, alcoholism, and domestic violence. Girls between the ages of 8 and 25 are mostly illiterate and have to work as housewives at home. The social and financial penalties of bearing a female child have increased over the past few decades, and female feticide has increased to unprecedented levels.

Only 2084 of the 56,240 students who registered in professional courses in the state in 2009 were from rural backgrounds, which is a significant indicator that almost 40% of students drop out before they complete class 10.

One of the early school leavers is Manpreet Kaur, a resident of Churpur village in the Ludhiana area of Punjab. Manpreet was protected as a child from all the hardships her family experienced. She would attend class, engage in mud play, and even bake mud cakes. But when she became older, she faced a terrible reality.

Her mother was a stay-at-home mom, while her father was a security guard. The decision was made not to provide Manpreet an education since the family was suffering financially to make ends meet. Like her siblings, she was forced to drop out of school.

She did, however, experience a life-changing residential programme provided by The Kalgidhar Society. Manpreet earned an MA in Instrumental Music today and a prize for being the top student in her cohort.

Residential programme that is empowering

For poor young women from outlying regions of North India, the Akal Institute of Rural Women Empowerment (AIRWE) offers a free residential programme. Depending on their aptitude at the time of enrollment, they receive an education that combines modern scientific teaching with spiritual learning, which typically lasts between four and six years.

Instilling in young girls the values of selfless service, this centre, which is associated with the NIOS board and Eternal University (UGC authorised), strengthens them intellectually, ethically, and emotionally. It has impacted more than 1000 pupils and more than five states.

Giving Manpreet and other women the legal ability to perform several tasks means empowering them. Women would be able to engage in planning and decision-making if they had more power.

The residential programme places a strong emphasis on emancipating young girls intellectually, ethically, and emotionally. It instils in them the values of selfless service and global brotherhood as well as helps them build a strong moral foundation.

The curriculum combines scientific and spiritual instruction to strengthen participants’ moral, intellectual, and emotional fortitude. The curriculum cultivates virtues like tolerance, patience, and seriousness. It helps locals finish their education, obtain employment, and build secure lives for themselves while ensuring that they are fluent English speakers.

Manpreet, who had dropped out of school, joined AIRWE in 2005. Her parents signed her up for the free programme as soon as they learned that it would assist their daughter finish her education.

Manpreet was one of 40 students who received degrees and distinctions at her graduation. She considers it a privilege that she was given this chance. Her family’s future has also been shaped by it.

“It’s a sensation that I can’t put into words,” she says. In addition to receiving free education during my programme, I also received free boarding, accommodation, food, medical care, and other amenities. I have two gold medals and a respectable career at the Akal Institute of Divine Music at the Kalgidhar Society thanks to their help. I appreciate having this.
