Despite Bollywood drought, India’s box office collection crosses Rs 10,000 cr in 2022

India’s box office collection crosses Rs 10K crore

India’s box office collection – The much-lauded Hindi cinema industry in India had what can only be described as a dreadful year, but the year 2022’s total domestic box office receipts exceeded the impressive Rs 10,000 crore barrier, making it the second-best year after 2019.

This is happening in the midst of two years of underwhelming performance brought on by the Covid epidemic and the shutdown of Indian theatres. In fact, the domestic gross box office receipts for 2022 have already eclipsed the Rs 9,810 crore mark for 2018.

The India Box Office Report: November 2022, issued on Monday by consultancy Ormax Media, states that the total box office for January through October 2022 is Rs 9,751 crore. The analysis made clear that for 2022 to surpass all previous records for domestic box office gross receipts, films opening in December must earn at least Rs 1,197 crore. The report stated that as of the publication date (2022), “the Rs 10,000 crore threshold has already been achieved with the success of Avatar: The Way Of Water.”

Between Vikram’s Rs 284 crore and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’s Rs 219 crore in box office receipts, the Ajay Devgn-starring film is anticipated to rank eighth this year. With Rs 970 crore, the Kannada blockbuster smash KGF: Chapter 2 is in first place.

“The content from the South is primarily to blame for this. Movie collections like RRR, KGF: Chapter 2 and Kantara grew and gained popularity in the north as well. There was no north theatre market for south Indian movies prior to the Bahubali flicks and Pushpa: The Rise. These films have experienced incredible success up north since the Hindi belt opened up. In fact, audiences have been drawn to theatres by the content of foreign-language films, according to NV Capital Founding.

The success of Drishyam 2 increases Bollywood’s share of the global box office to 35% from 33% as of last month. However, the article pointed out that this is significantly less than the Hindi language’s 44% contribution to the domestic box office in 2019.

The nine-month period from January to September 2022 saw foot traffic of 83.8 million and 41 million at the listed multiplex chains PVR and INOX, respectively. That puts their foot traffic at roughly 68.4% and 75.6% of the same period in 2019, respectively.
