Young Health Program Promotes Healthy Living Among Children

Young Health Program – Did you aware that poor diets and malnutrition both pose significant risks for non-communicable diseases?

71% of fatalities worldwide each year are caused by cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular and respiratory disorders. Premature deaths from non-communicable diseases (NCDs) account for about 85% of deaths prematurely, and undernutrition is a bigger problem in low- and middle-income nations.

Because of the flaws in today’s food systems, wholesome, secure, reasonably priced, and sustainable diets cannot be provided. What’s worse is that they negatively impact nutrition in a number of ways, especially for marginalized and vulnerable groups.

Young Health Program

According to studies, just one in six children worldwide receives a diet that meets minimum standards, and two-thirds of children worldwide do not consume the necessary minimum number of food categories. In order to keep kids healthy, they need to eat well. It has an impact on them all throughout their lives, from helping their organs develop to lowering their risk of getting chronic diseases.

A young woman from Delhi named Sadha has firsthand knowledge of the risks associated with eating poorly. She overindulged in junk food and sugary snacks, leading to a sluggish lifestyle where she found it difficult to do everyday activities. But after she joined the Young Health Programme (YHP), an international initiative for community investment operated by AstraZeneca and Plan India, everything changed.

Time prior to YHP

Sadha was brought up in a conventional manner. She enjoyed quick food and had no grand plans for the future. She frequently hangs out with pals after school. Sadha and her friends would go out and try different restaurants and foods together.

The gang would always distribute the responsibility of paying the bills among itself. They would eat chaats, sandwiches, and other delicious yet unhealthy meals. On a crucial day, Sadha felt ashamed since she lacked the money to pay the bill. As a result, she stole money from her mother’s wallet to throw a party for her friends.
