IIT-Kanpur Startup Develops ‘i-Ghat’ To Redefine River Ghats
Acquafront Infrastructure Private Limited (AIPL), a start-up based at the Start-up Incubation and Innovation Centre (SIIC) of Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, has developed an innovative concept dubbed “i-Ghat” at Kada Ghat in Kaushambi. The institute claimed in a news release that improving and maintaining the cleanliness of river ghats in India is a cutting-edge concept.

The i-Ghat facility was inaugurated at the Kada Ghat in Kaushambi in September 2022. It was recently inaugurated by deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya.
What Is i-Ghat Used For?
According to a press release, “i-Ghat includes integrating reinforced cement concrete (RCC)-based floats with solar cells and electric-powered boats using Steel Integrated Floating Jelly (SIFJ) technology” to prevent the negative effects of using plastic floats and to lessen the noise and air pollution produced by diesel boats.
The i-Ghat project is equipped with a cutting-edge floating charging station with a battery swap for the battery-powered electric boats that use solar energy produced through the RCC-based floating solar grid. It is completely independent and silent, and it promotes NTT DATA’s aim to support technical advancements for a sustainable future.

Restoring Historic Connect, Repairing Water Infrastructure
Ankit Patel and Achin Agarwal founded the business AIPL, which has been developing floating infrastructure solutions. Khidkiya Ghat in Varanasi, India, on the Ganges River is home to the world’s first floating CNG refuelling station.
Rivers have long been highly valued in Indian religion and culture, but Patel asserted that over the past century, industrialisation and unequal growth have harmed the ecology. He said that in order to restore these historical ties, modern strategies for quickening development with long-term improvements for water infrastructure are required. The SIFJ technology was developed to address the unique issue that India and rising nations face.
Professor Ankush Sharma, who is in charge of incubator and innovation, noted that AIPL’s i-Ghat technology is an excellent effort to create sustainable livelihood for the local population and helmsmen. “With the assistance of NTT DATA, the initiative now has greater vigour and pace,” he asserted.
