AWS InCommunities steps up effort to holistic development of rural school kids in Telangana

AWS InCommunities on development of rural school children

AWS InCommunities – The new AWS Think Big Spaces at the school, the breakfast programme for students, and the recently renovated Zilla Parishad High School campus in Meerkhanpet all work to improve learning outcomes.

Schools play a crucial part in supporting children’s development and must give students access to a safe space with the tools and resources that inspire them to learn, try new things, and have fun.

Since 2021, Telangana’s government schools and AWS InCommunities have collaborated to improve educational achievements. As part of its ongoing work, AWS InCommunities recently finished renovating the pre-primary, primary, and high school campus of the Zilla Parishad High School (ZPHS) in Meerkhanpet, Hyderabad. For the pupils at the school, AWS InCommunities has also started a breakfast programme and AWS Think Big Spaces.

Telangana’s Minister of Education Sabitha Indra Reddy thanked Amazon Web Services (AWS) for its assistance and dedication to community development as she officially opened the newly rebuilt school today. The last few years have been particularly difficult for communities, she said, and now is our chance to transform and create more empowered, equitable communities by lowering barriers to access to high-quality healthcare and education. It gives me hope.

A much-needed renovation is completed at Zilla Parishad High School in Meerkhanpet.

The remodelling project included new flooring for the school as well as necessary repairs and electrification of every classroom. Students now have sports gear, and playgrounds have been improved. Lunch will be served in a recently remodelled kitchen, which has been set up as a special enclosure for pupils to eat in during the midday. On the school campus, a water purifier has been installed to provide potable water, and separate restrooms for boys and girls have been built.

“We hope to see more than 500 students from Meerkhanpet and several nearby villages benefiting from an enhanced educational experience at the newly renovated Zilla Parishad High School,” said Puneet Chandok, president, commercial business, AWS India & South Asia, AISPL. It is a reviving environment for students to thrive and learn with its well-lit classrooms and contemporary campus that includes a kitchen, playground, sanitation facilities, and other amenities. Enabling this significant step towards high-quality education, with favourable and secure conditions for each student in the community, is satisfying.

Healthy start to help students concentrate more

Schoolchildren who are in an atmosphere that promotes development also receive the right nutrition to ensure their physical and mental wellbeing. AWS InCommunities is starting a breakfast programme for schoolchildren with the intention of expanding it to 5,000 kids in order to achieve this goal.

Students in public schools typically have their first meal in the late afternoon. The programme seeks to improve their general health as well as sharpen their capacity to concentrate on studies and engage in sports with more vigour by serving them a nutritious breakfast of dry fruits/multi-millet laddoos and ragi malt/protein-based drinks.

There is a special place for curious brains to think expansively.

The fourth of eight such centres planned for the area and the sixteenth in India, AWS Think Big Spaces, has opened in Meerkhanpet ZPHS. The AWS Think Big Spaces are designed to give students in the state an outstanding learning environment.

Here, students have a dedicated space to pursue their extracurricular interests in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) fields. These labs are set up to enable students to think broadly, pursue original concepts, experiment, and gain useful skills for resolving the most pressing problems in the real world.

Taking initiative to change the neighbourhood

The AWS InCommunities programme seeks to improve communities, particularly in areas where AWS develops and manages its worldwide infrastructure. The programmes offered by AWS InCommunities are geared toward the growth of a community as a whole, taking into account its people, environment, and general welfare.

AWS InCommunities arrived in India in 2018 with long-term community-focused projects that were first put into practise in the Navi Mumbai district of Maharashtra before being expanded into the Rangareddy district of Telangana in 2020. Since that time, AWS InCommunities programmes have concentrated on creating sustainable villages by enhancing the local economy, critical infrastructure, market connections, connectivity, and other essential amenities. The Zilla Parishad High School (ZPHS), Hythabad, in the Shabad mandal of the Rangareddy district, underwent renovations in May 2022.
