POSOCO is Grid Controller of India Limited
Today, Power System Operation Corporation Limited (POSOCO), India’s national grid operator, announced that it has changed its name to “Grid Controller of India Limited.” The name change was made to better reflect the crucial role that Grid Operators play in preserving the Indian Electricity Grid’s integrity, reliability, economy, resilience, and long-term viability.

The name change to “Grid Controller of India Limited” is a positive development because of the company’s special position at the center of India’s energy grid, linking people to the energy they consume. According to Sh. S. R. Narasimhan, Chairman & Managing Director, Grid Controller of India Limited, “It explains the duties carried out by the Grid Managers in the nation at National and Regional Levels.”

With renewed vigor, he continued, “We continued to be motivated by our vision, which is to be a global institution of excellence for reliable and resilient power systems, fostering efficient electricity markets, and promoting economy and sustainability.”
The National Load Despatch Center (NLDC) and five (5) Regional Load Despatch Centers are run by “Grid Controller of India Limited (Grid-India)”. The establishment and management of a Green Energy Open Access Portal, the Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) Mechanism, transmission pricing, short-term open access in transmission, the Deviation Settlement Mechanism, the Power System Development Fund (PSDF), and other significant power sector reforms fall under the purview of Grid-India, which is also designated as the nodal agency.
