Smart Farmers Community of HZL Under Project Samadhan

Smart Farmers Community of Hindustan Zinc

Smart Farmers Community – Lal Singh, a farmer from Singhatwada, Zawar Rajasthan, has been engaged in his family’s farming for decades, yet neither he nor 3500 other members of the same community have ever tried growing any crops. After feeling the urge to change, he attended a training session for the Samadhan initiative in Bandhanwada, Ajmer. He then looked into bio-fertilizers, bio-pesticides, and organic farming techniques for the crop, using a sophisticated drip irrigation technique that allowed him to grow crops with little water. Because of this, a massive crop was generated, and he also saw a profit of Rs. 1.5 lakh. On the other hand, Dinesh Chandra Sharma of Kashmor Gram Panchayat Chittorgarh is a real-life illustration of the adage, “Nothing comes easy.”

In order to ensure that younger generations continue to be involved in the administration of farm operations, the Samadhan programme primarily focuses on farm-based interventions that harness community participation to generate results.

More than 30,000 farmers’ livelihoods are being impacted by the Samadhan programme. Of these, 4,300 of the farmers are women, and another 5,000 have received training in more effective agricultural and animal husbandry techniques. 10,000 farmers were also given access to training and capacity-building in better agriculture techniques. In addition, 13,838 farmers have gotten help with low tunnel farming, trellis farming, mushroom farming, orchard farming, and other high-tech agricultural practices.

In addition to engaging, Samadhan has aided more than 4,000 farmers through its numerous innovative programmes like FPO (Farmer Producer Organizations) and FIG (Farmer Interest Groups), which continuously support the farmers to scale their businesses by giving them access to the most up-to-date agricultural techniques, high-wage labourers, and high-quality materials at an affordable price.

As of right now, Samadhan has contributed to the creation of 224 FIGs that guarantee effective connection with farmers at the grassroots level as well as 38+ lakhs in share capital. The focus of the spotlight is the fact that FPOs have already made Rs. 79 Lakhs in revenue since they began selling farm-related goods in May 2022.

It has also assisted in establishing a microbusiness for dairy processing under one of the FPOs. Every day, this new facility processes 250 litres of milk received from its 33 farmer members! Even more encouraging is the fact that the unit has already acquired 450 litres of Bilona Ghee, over 30,000 litres of buttermilk, and close to 25,000 litres of milk.
