NTPC and NSDF to develop archery in India

The National Sports Development Funds (NSDF) and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) and NTPC Ltd, India’s largest integrated energy business, inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today for the advancement of archery in India.

The historic MoU signing ceremony was attended by Shri R.K. Singh, Honorable Cabinet Minister of Power and New & Renewable Energy, and Shri Anurag Singh Thakur, Honorable Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports and Information and Broadcasting. Senior officials, including Shri Gurdeep Singh, CMD, Shri D.K. Patel, Director (HR), and others, attended the event.

To give India’s talented archers access to top-notch facilities, international exposure, and platforms, NTPC has been sponsoring the sport of archery in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sports Authority of India (SAI), and Archery Association of India (AAI).

NTPC has contributed Rs. 115 Crore over the course of 5 years for the development of Archery Sports as part of their CSR effort.

Out of the total 115 Crore, Rs. 15 Crore will be spent once to prepare field targets, build up training facilities, and purchase equipment like bows and arrows.

The remaining Rs. 100 crore will be spent as ongoing costs over the next five years (Rs. 20 crore annually) for the development of archery from the ground up, for the identification and development of elite talent, for the development of high-performing coaches, for the purchase of FOP equipment, for the development of sports and science labs appropriate for archery, for scholarships and prize money for top athletes, for advanced training, for competition exposure, for foreign training, and for exposure to S.

Through an existing MoU, NTPC has already been promoting archery sports. Since 2018, NTPC has backed national and international archery competitions. The deal was further extended to the 2024 Summer Olympics. The National Ranking Archery Tournaments (NRAT), coaching facilities, equipment, playing kits, and many other activities are supported by the NTPC in the organization of all National Archery Championships for Sub-Jr., Jr., and Sr. categories for both Men and Women groups.

Indian Archers are taking part in all international competitions, including Asian Championships, World Cups, and Circuit Championships, with the support of NTPC. They are doing well in all international competitions and bringing honour to India by winning medals at the highest level.

Archers excelled in Tokyo and reached the quarterfinals, which is thought to be India’s best archery performance to date. During this time, they won numerous international medals. Shri Harvinder Singh earned the bronze medal for India’s archers at the Tokyo Paralympics in 2021, where they put on an outstanding display. India was awarded two world records in 2021, and Indian archers took home 49 international medals, including 20 gold, 20 silver, and 9 bronze, from all-important international competitions, including the Paralympics.

NTPC and NSDF CSR

In order to address many focal areas, including livelihood generation, skill development, education, agriculture and farming, water and sanitation, etc., NTPC has grown up its CSR projects. Undoubtedly one of the best instances of environmental sustainability is the Municipal Solid Waste Treatment Plant in Karsada, Varanasi. The project also demonstrated NTPC’s abilities as a project manager. Varanasi rose to the 27th spot in 2020’s “Swachh Sarvekshan Rankings” conducted by the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India, as a result of this initiative. Additionally, the city has received recognition as the Ganga River’s cleanest city. Through the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and the National Skill Development Fund (NSDF), NTPC has also implemented a skill development programme for young, including youth from the Leh & Ladakh and the J&K regions.

Additionally, NTPC has offered its CSR assistance to Uttarakhand for the purpose of rebuilding and restoring government schools and health facilities that were recently destroyed by an unanticipated natural disaster.

The NSDF promotes the success of athletes by offering them the chance to train with renowned worldwide coaches while receiving technical, scientific, and psychological support as well as by exposing them to international events.

Additionally present at the event were Union Ministers of Information & Broadcasting, Youth Affairs & Sports, and Power, Shri Raj Kumar Singh and Shri Anurag Thakur.
