IEA Report: India’s ‘LiFE’ Initiative
Recently International Energy Agency (IEA) has released the Report titled “Life (LiFE) Lessons from India”.
This report examines how India has integrated a number of policies into its energy transition strategy that are compatible with the LiFE initiative.
Key findings of report-
- Adoption of Lifestyle for the Environment (LiFE) measures will reduce global annual CO2 emissions by up to 2 billion tons in 2030.
- LIFE measures could save consumers around $440 billion globally in 2030.
- India’s economy is already 10 percent more energy efficient than the global and G20 countries average.
- India has taken less time to achieve electricity coverage from 50% to 100% as compared to other major economies.
- The Life Mission was presented by the Prime Minister of India at COP-26 in 2021. It aims to inspire individuals and communities to practice a lifestyle that is in harmony with nature and does not harm it.
- LYF aims to move from a ‘Use-and-Dispose’ economy to a circular economy.
- The mission plans to create and promote a global network of individuals called ‘Pro-Planet People’ (P3).
- Pro-Planet People refers to individuals who have a common commitment to adopt and promote an eco-friendly lifestyle
- NITI Aayog is providing guidance to the Life Mission. It is being implemented by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
Implementation Period: 2022 to 2027
International Energy Agency-
- It was established in 1974. It was established to coordinate the collective response to any major oil supply disruption.
- India is its associate member. It’s headquarter is in Paris, the capital of France.
