Jagdish Chandra Bose
- Recently, the Ministry of Culture has organized an international conference on the contributions of “Jagdish Chandra Bose”.
- Jagdish Chandra Bose was born on 30 November He was an Indian physicist and plant physiologist.
- He obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of Cambridge.
- In the year 1917, he established the Bose Institute. It was the first modern research center in Asia dedicated to interdisciplinary studies.
- Satyendra Nath Bose, Meghnad Saha, P. C. Mahalanobis etc. have been his disciples. All of them later became famous scientists of India.
Scientific contribution
- He invented the wireless communication system. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering gave him the title of Father of Radio Science.
- He invented the Crescograph to measure the growth of plants. He also did important research in understanding the neurobiology of plants.
- He also demonstrated the responses of plants to heat, cold, light, noise and other external stimuli.
- He is also known for his groundbreaking research on ‘millimetre range wavelength microwaves’.
- He was the first Asian to receive a US patent in the year Also, in the year 1920, along with Ramanujam, he was also the first Asian to become a Fellow of the Royal Society.
- His major works are: Response in the living and non-living, The nervous mechanism of plants etc.
He used Satyagraha against the discrimination being done in the matter of salary by the British administration. For this reason, he is also called Satyagrahi Scientist.
