Recently the results of Civil Services Examination 2021 have been declared by the Union Public Service Commission, in which 22 year old Divya Tanwar has brought laurels to the family by securing 438th rank and topping the UPSC exam. And has also become the topping young officer in UPSC.

Divya told during an interview that she loves Ghoomar dance, singing and talking with her mother. she cleared the UPSC exam in her very first attempt. Because her schooling was done through Hindi medium since childhood, later she chose Hindi literature as her optional subject in UPSC civil service examination. Because Divya comes from Economically Weaker Section (EWS), after GETTING 438th rank, her service allocation is Indian Police Service (IPS).

UPSC Journey

Divya Tanwar is originally from Nimbi, Mahendragarh, Haryana. She lives in her family with her mother and a younger sister, Divya’s father died in 2011 due to a heart attack. Due to which, since then, the burden of the family came on her, divya’s mother cooks food in the school to run the house and goes to the houses and sweeps.

Due to which she has passed the toughest exam of India by coming out of a small house, and people are appreciating her for the position she has achieved. Such a young age and the circumstances in which Divya has secured All India Rank 438 in UPSC is truly commendable.

Divya told that she took the help of YouTube for studies, and when she cleared the mains exam, gave mock interviews in different institutes.

Initially, I used to study for 7 to 8 hours, but as prelims and mains approached, I increased my studies to 11 to 12 hours “she added”.

she said that i did not take the help of any coaching institute for studies, i passed this examination on the basis of self-study.

Divya advised those students who want to be successful in this exam “Set a goal in your life and work on it continuously. You may have to face difficulties in between, but you have to be patient and keep working hard, like I have done, any child can do it”.

She also shared how she used to teach at school to meet the expenses of her books, as well as give tuitions to the children at home. Along with doing household chores, she had also prepared for upsc regularly.

When Divya was in school, she got selected in Navodaya Vidyalaya where she passed the 12th examination and enrolled in Government Women’s College for graduation. Where she did her graduation in Bachelor of Science where her main subjects were Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

Because she is belongs to the poor family due to which her younger sister is being given free education in school. Along with this she also earns to help in her studies and livelihood of family members.

she further said that after this result, she will not stop and will continue her efforts, because Divya aims to become an IAS (Indian administrative service).

Divya Tanwar got 751 marks in upsc mains written exam and 179 marks in interview. That is, divya got total 930 (40.43%) marks out of 2025 in upsc civil services examination.

Prelims Marks

in preliminary examination divya got 81.68 marks in general studies paper while she got 68.92 marks in CSAT paper.
