King’s College London Welcomes the News of the UK Rejoining Horizon Europe

This means that researchers will now be able apply for grants and bid to take part in projects under the Horizon programme, which enables researchers and scientists to work across disciplines and borders with funding awarded based on excellence regardless of career stage.

Alongside seeking to tackle today’s most pressing global challenges, such as climate change and health crises, Horizon promotes close collaboration between researchers in member countries.

This is not only great for the UK science and technology community but also for the whole of Europe, as collaboration is vital for driving the economic growth and prosperity that results from basic and applied science research.

Professor Bashir M. Al-Hashimi, Vice President (Research & Innovation)
Previous Horizon funding has enabled King’s to lead ambitious international projects like AIMS-2-TRIALS and RADAR-CNS requiring coordination across many countries and institutions. It has also supported King’s researchers in undertaking highly novel, multidisciplinary work and provided substantial grants for academics across disciplines and career stages.

Professor Shitij Kapur, President & Principal at King’s said: “This is a big win for universities and the UK research and science community. Participating in Horizon Europe will open new avenues for discovery, support and create jobs, and help our academics to continue to forge valuable connections with Europe.

“Thanks to Horizon funding, King’s has led on far-reaching projects that have harnessed the expertise of researchers across Europe and beyond. Renewed membership will allow us to once again be at the forefront of these collaborations, driving research innovation in the UK and around the world.”
