Member of the National Commission for Minorities visits AMU

Aligarh : Ms. Syed Shahezadi, a distinguished Member of the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) under the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India, graced Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) with her presence today. The day unfolded with an interactive session held at the Conference Hall of the Registrar’s Office, where Ms. Shahezadi engaged with AMU’s functionaries, faculty members, and students.

During her address, Ms. Shahezadi provided insights into the NCM’s pivotal role, emphasizing its establishment under the National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992. She stressed that NCM’s primary mission is to safeguard and protect the interests of minority communities in accordance with the Constitution of India and relevant legislation.

Expressing her admiration for AMU’s rich legacy and the vision of its founder, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, Ms. Shahezadi paid tributes to AMU for making significant contributions in the of field education worldwide.

Of notable focus during her visit was women’s empowerment through education, and she lauded the government’s commitment towards minority welfare.

AMU’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mohammad Gulrez, highlighted the university’s achievements and its vital role in the nation’s development. He also shed light on the infrastructural needs essential for AMU’s continued growth.

The welcoming address by Registrar Mr. Mohammad Imran (IPS) provided an insightful introduction to AMU’s rich history and achievements.

The session saw active participation from AMU functionaries, deans, principals, Elected EC members and students, fostering an enriching dialogue between AMU and the NCM.

Ms. Shahezadi’s visit extended to the “Creative Mela,” an exhibition organized by the University Women’s Polytechnic, where she commended the exceptional craftsmanship displayed by students.

Ms. Shahezadi’s visit was marked by mutual appreciation for AMU’s contributions to education, empowerment, and the betterment of minority communities, promising continued collaboration for the advancement of these noble causes.
