306 Students from 94 Schools competed in the finale of ‘Infinity 2023 – The Ultimate Math Championship’ in association with ABWA and BITS Pilani

Mumbai : Aditya Birla World Academy (ABWA), India’s leading international school under the aegis of Aditya Birla Education Trust, in association with BITS Pilani and the University of Waterloo (Faculty of Mathematics), successfully conducted Infinity 2023 – The Ultimate Math Championship, a one-of-a-kind, international initiative for students. The championship encouraged the students to demonstrate their mathematical abilities and their creativity. The event took place on 14th-15th January, 2023 at Atlas Skilltech University, Mumbai. The winners of the category ‘Infinity Champions of the Year’ are Aditya Birla World Academy and Oberoi International School for the category of Senior and Advanced Team respectively. The ‘Mathematician of the Year 2023’ has been awarded to Naman Jain from The International School Bangalore and Suhaan Mobani from Aditya Birla World Academy in the Senior Category. In the Advanced Category, Lakshay Bansal from Neerja Modi School and Ayaan Khan from Indian School Al Wadi Al Kabir, Oman were awarded.

The competition also assisted the students in developing analytical and critical-thinking abilities, which are useful in fields outside of maths and academics. The Infinity 2023 – The Ultimate Math Championship finals featured intriguing and distinctive competitions like Pass the Baton, in which each team member contributed to a portion of the solution while the third member provided the final answer, and Bulb Your Ideas, in which the teams presented their solutions to the jury in the form of a dance, song, skit, or in another creative and engaging manner. Math Challengers is a team competition where students come together to solve maths problems.

Congratulating the winners and participants at the grand finale, Mrs. Radhika Sinha, Principal, Aditya Birla World Academy, said, The overwhelming nature of mathematics for most students is a well-known reality. Our main goal with Infinity 2023 – The Ultimate Math Championship was to encourage students that maths can be exciting and fun, through a few creative competitions, such as Bulb Your Ideas and Pass the Baton. This event was special because it brings together students from all around the nation and the world on one stage to celebrate their passion for mathematics.”

Dr.Sudhirkumar Barai, Director, BITS Pilani, said,“9th edition of Infinity has opened up the minds of participants to explore the infinite possibilities of Maths applications and the key take away has been fearlessly dreaming about applying maths to real life problems of social importance.”

Dr.Surya Banerjee, Professor, University of Waterloo, Faculty of Mathematics, said,“It was delightful to see so many bright young enthusiastic faces participating in the contest. I’m glad that this group of young Indian girls and boys are carrying on the great mathematical traditions of our country. As an Indian, I couldn’t feel more proud. India’s future is in good hands.”

Dr. James Tanton, Mathematician at Large, Mathematical Association of America, USA, said, “It was delightful to see so many bright young enthusiastic faces participating in the contest. I’m glad that this group of young Indian girls and boys are carrying on the great mathematical traditions of our country. As an Indian, I couldn’t feel more proud. India’s future is in good hands.”

The proceedings ended with a vote of thanks by ABWA team. All winners were bestowed with trophies.
