Youth will play very important role in Swachh Bharat campaign: Union Minister Anurag Thakur

Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Singh Thakur launched a month-long nationwide Swachh Bharat 2022 at Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh on 1st October.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Thakur said, Swacch Bharat will make Swasth Bharat and Youth will play a very important role in this campaign.

The Minister pointed out that it is the responsibility of every citizen to work for a clean environment and think about what we are leaving for the next generation. He also appealed to the public to contribute to saving the resources of the country and contribute to nation-building.

The Minister informed that Prayagraj stood first in the Indian Swacchta league which was organised in 1850 towns of the country.

Later, Mr. Thakur participated in the cleanliness drive in the Sangam area of the city. Many students, social, and political workers, members of Nehru Yuva Kendras along with general public participated in the drive along with the Minister.

Swachh Bharat 2022 programme is being organised in six lakh villages of 744 districts across the country through the network of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) affiliated Youth Clubs and National Service Scheme Affiliated Institutions. The Department of Youth Affairs has set a target of collecting and disposing of one crore kg plastic waste through Swachh Bharat 2022.

The objectives of the Swachh Bharat Programme are to organize the cleaning of public spaces and households across all the districts of the country from the 1st of October to the 31st of October 2022. Last year also the campaign has been started in Prayagraj city.

Later in the evening, Sports Minister attended the golden jubilee function of Amitabh Bachchan sports complex in Prayagraj and launch the eight-day long golden Jubilee sports festival.
