NIRF Ranking 2023

The wait for one of the most awaited rankings of the year in the education sector in India is over with the 8th edition of NIRF Ranking 2023 getting released. Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, the Minister of State for Education and External Affairs has released the ranking.

NIRF Ranking, which started in 2016 with 4 categories : Management, Engineering, University and Pharmacy, now in its 8th edition has 13 categories in 2023. It started with and now in 2023 8686 institutions participated.

NIRF ranking is considered one of the unbiased rankings of India as it is not associated with any commercial transaction or any business house or media, secondly it is released by the Ministry of Education (earlier known as MHRD).

Hence, despite some of the flaws in the classifications, process and data analysis which it may have, it is widely considered as an acceptable ranking of Indian institutes for any technical, management, pharmacy, or university. A source to refer to assess the quality of education offered by an institute, research, standard, and public accountability.

Hence, more and more institutes are now participating and are striving to achieve improvement in their NIRF ranking.

“When we look at world rankings, they have completely different parameters and that is why the government started NIRF,” says Dr. Anil Sahasrabuddhe, Chairman NBA, at the press conference.

This year the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has topped in the overall NIRF ranking which is followed by Indian Institute of Science, and then Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi.
