On 1 Jan 2024 Indian Army came up with New HR Policy Related to Promotion Of Officers from Lt Col to Colonel Rank Officers.At Present only 30-40% Officers from Lieutenant Colonel Reaches To Colonel rank.Present Ranking system of Indian Army Involves First the Lieutenant Rank,then Captain Rank Followed by Major Rank Followed by Lieutenant Colonel and then comes Colonel Followed by Brigadier and there on.
Previously In Indian Army if a Lieutenant Colonel was Promoted to Colonel Rank he /she used to Command a Regiment thusHis Area Of Specialization if any had to be Left as he/she had to command the regiment .With the New HR Policy coming up Specialized Officers in Specialized Domains Like Artificial Intelligence,Weapon Designing,Robotics, Nano Technology, Information Technology can retain there specialization while wearing Colonel Rank
