Power of expression is fundamental quality of leadership. Rather I would say,anyone who is not comfortable with language, he is not good with power of expression, he cannot expect his career in armed forces especially as a commissioned officer.
As an officer it becomes very difficult to convey your ideas and things to your fellowmen if you don’t have Power Of Expression. Power OF Expression means How simply and with maximum clarity can you convey your ideas and thoughts.
Even this quality is checked in SSB screening. there you have to narrate the story, participate in group discussion, have to face personal interview, there is Lecturette and GDs and Group planning exercise. Wherever there is a conversation, power of expression helps.
As famous saying “Speech has power. Words do not fade. What starts out as a sound, ends in a deed.”
Whenever we are talking to anyone, there are three important things,
- You as a speaker.
- The content of your speech
- On the other end – the listener
Power of expression includes, both verbal and non-verbal communication skills. How you are communicating, verbally and non-verbally. In non-verbal communication includes – your confidence level, your facial gesture, your confidence , how good your eye contacts, hand movements etc.There is 55% of your conversation which is comprised of non-verbal communication, and rest your 45% communication is verbal communication. Out of which only 38% of your flow, your comfortability, accent, modulation and 7% is the selection of words. Please Do not use slang words.
Always keep in mind while conversation – you must be rhetoric enough and having a good eloquence. Talk effectively, having good fluency and you will Excel Power Of Expression
