The young generation is addicted to mobile.Our elders used to say that read more as much as you can.When my father started this Trishul Defence Academy in 2003 often he asked while interviewing the candidates that, ‘What do you read ?’
Construction and Destruction runs side by side, Today technology is progressing and books are regressing. Now the E- books, koo-koo, FM and apps facilitates listen to books, and you don’t have to read books.
Your reading habits must be good. You can choose different types of books of different topics, like some prefers fiction books, some prefers motivational or inspirational books. What every topic you may choose, but before facing SSB you must go through these 5 books, because the organisation you are going to join will be very helpful for that.
And the books are :
- SAM MANEKSHAW- SOLDIERING WITH DIGNITY by Lieutenant general Depinder Singh, this book is considered as biography of Field Marshal Manekshw. Which was written by his ADC Lieutenant general Depinder Singh after his retirement. I would advice to every aspirant for SSB to must read this book. Specially Annexure V is very important to avoid for rattaficaiton of SSB. And inculcate many habits inside itself and starts enjoying life.
- INDIA’S BRAVEHEARS: UNTOLD STORIES FROM THE INDIAN ARMY by Lt General Satish Dua (Retd) who was core commander of the 15thcore during Surgical Strike and is a very big name in Indian Army. Must read the book you will came to know about many stories so that you interest remains constant and you will learn a lot from this book. This is a very beautiful book. You will relate yourself with the organisation you are going to join. You will learn what type of life you are going to live in the forces.
- The third book which I would like to recommend is ‘A Soldier’s Diary: KAARGIL, The Inside Story’ by Harinder Baweja is thin book, read this book you will enjoy a lot. Is about the full story of Kargil from starting to end day by day. this book is written very beautifully. This book is best seller of its time.
- The next book is ‘BEYOND FEAR by Ian Cardozo, who is considered as icons in Indian army. Ian Cardozo itself is a very big name. He is that Major General who is disabled. When he was Major in army then in the war of 1971 and was hit bullet in his leg, had no one to cut his legs, he himself cut his leg with khukuri. This book has the story of this brave soldier. Try to understand, that courage, that this was first one to allot a regimental command not before him or after him that and he achieved the Major General rank. Since then the army has changed his rules that you will get a regimental command even being disabled. Just imagine with an artificial leg a man runs BPET of 5 km and came excellent. And went to meet Chief of Army Staff at high altitude with climbing the hills came first there. Ian Cardozo had written many books among which Beyond Fear is a very beautiful book.
- The fifth book is ‘GUN GUTS AND GLORY’ by Rachna Bisht is a very good author who came from a defence background. She had written many books among those this book is special.
The list is endless to read. But these 5 books are very essential. Rather I would say that as we are earning, or doing our work I still reads a lot and spend 1-2% of my earning on books. Which will inculcate reading habit in you and make you wise .
