8 Signs that Show You aren’t Living Consciously

The majority of answers will be YES!

As life gets faster and closer to technological advancements, we struggle to live Consciously. We spend so much time in front of our screens that rarely do we get the time to live consciously. By conscious Living, I mean living proactively than reactively. It includes concepts like spirituality, health and well-being, environmental awareness, self-development, and non-violence. In short, it signifies being aware of our actions and taking full control over them, by placing us in the driver’s seat of our life.

So how do you measure if you’re Living Consciously in your life or not?

You might ask what you mean by that. If I’m not sleeping or not in a coma, it means I’m conscious, not unconscious.

Well, there is a difference between being conscious and living consciously. Conscious living does not mean just living your life in autopilot mode. It is something beyond that. There are many signs that will tell you when you’re being unconscious even when you are awake, and not sleeping. Here are the most common of them:

1. You complain and blame a lot.

For all your mistakes, you are always ready with an excuse. You complain about your career, job, relationships, money, and friends every single time. Even if you possess much greater blessings, you will always have something to complain about and blame.

2. You are dominated by your limiting beliefs.

We all have some inbuilt beliefs with us, that work as our inner critics. Those beliefs are known as limiting beliefs. For example, I am not so comfortable talking to strangers, so it’s better I should avoid it. Or just because I am afraid of driving, so I should not learn to drive. Such limiting perspectives stop us from making progress.

When we tend to dwell on those negative beliefs, we hamper our growth. For example, the belief “I can’t be happy in this job” will keep you unhappy even if you are in any other job. Because why to even look for ways to be happy when you “know” very well you can’t be happy anyway?

3. You are okay with being a part of the crowd.

The one who always follows the crowd, without considering their own creative and innovative skills, often gets lost in the crowd. As a result of this, they are caught in the trap of mediocrity.

Following the crowd is cool if you want to go where the crowd is going. Never fear being the odd one out in order to achieve your own goals.

4. You are never motivated enough.

The people or things who once gave you joy, now don’t matter to you at all. You have just lost interest in them. Moreover, you are never excited to do anything. Whether it comes to meeting new people or working on a new project, your zeal has vanished. What may be the causes?

Failures, rejections, losses, stress?

Well, as long as you live, you will have to deal with those emotions. That doesn’t mean you can’t have fun ever. It is equally important to heal, recover and move forward, rather than keep dwelling or clinging to your cause of unhappiness.

5. You have set predefined prejudices for yourself.

He is addicted to drinking, I don’t like him.

She doesn’t look smart.”

We never hesitate to judge someone. Isn’t it? Even before knowing about that person to some extent, we make an assumption about them. If you don’t keep your mind open to new experiences or things, you will stay unconscious. These predefined prejudices will prevent you from meeting new people and trying new things, thus making you stuck.

6. You are always ready to compromise.

“I am not good enough.”

And with this statement, you are ready to settle for less than what you deserve. You don’t crave “Awesome“, but are okay with “Okay.”As a result, you don’t feel any problem in compromising, even when it costs you your happiness, not just once or twice but many a time.

7. Your progress still remains the same.

Are you still living the same life as one/two/five years ago? Do you still earn the same amount of money? Are your eating/lifestyle habits still the same? Do you still spend your day as you did back then?

If you are not seeing progress in any of these fields, it means you are not doing anything which needs to be done. In other words, you are not living consciously.

8. You don’t even try for the fear of being judged.

I want to start my new business, but I don’t know how X/Y/Z will react, so I think I should drop this idea.”

My friends won’t consider me cool if I don’t wear this dress.

If statements like the above are in your self-talk, then you are too concerned over others’ opinions. Because of this, you often suppress your inner voice, and your vibes. And this often leads to a lack of self-esteem in you.

Some healthy steps to living consciously:

  • Identify your strengths and work on them to even perform better.
  • Spend some time with yourself. Listen to your inner voice at this time i.e your Me-Time.
  • Show deep appreciation towards everything, each little thing.
  • Learn to accept more even when it is bitter and you are unwilling to accept so.
  • The Power of Now is eye-opening. This is what I learned from Eckhart Tolle. So learn to live in NOW i.e in the present moment.
  • Get fit. And by fitness, I mean physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional fitness.
  • Audit your time from time to time. You must know which things in life are worthy of your time and attention and which are not.

CONCLUSION

By living consciously only, you can realize whether your choices are healthy or not. Your conscious decisions are the best health insurance you can have, and it is completely free. So you must focus on living consciously.

The more you live consciously, aware of how the world works, the happier you are. You alone are responsible for how your life looks. The sooner you realize this, the less you would suffer.
