CLAT Quantitative Techniques Syllabus

The Quantitative Techniques for CLAT 2024 will include short sets of facts or propositions, or other textual representations of numerical information, followed by a series of questions. You will be required to derive information from the passages or questions, and apply mathematical operations on such information.

The questions will require you to:

1. Derive, infer, and manipulate numerical information set out in such passages;
2. Apply various 10th standard mathematical operations on such information, including from areas such as ratios and proportions, basic algebra, mensuration and statistical estimation.

The main purpose of Quantitative Techniques for CLAT 2024 is to assess your aptitude for employing mathematical operations to solve problems and extract information from structured data. It will evaluate basic arithmetic skills and data interpretation abilities rather than expecting advanced mathematical knowledge.

Important Topics for CLAT Quantitative Techniques 2024

The quantitative techniques for CLAT syllabus include a variety of topics. For your convenience, we have divided various topics into three (3) sub-heads on the basis of priority. 

1st Priority 

These are primary topics of CLAT quantitative techniques section. The following are the basic topics which you must know to solve quickly without any error. This includes: –

1. Percentage
2. Ratio
3. Proportion
4. Profit & Loss
5. Partnership
6. Ages Average
7. Simple Interest and Compound Interest

Maximum data interpretation can be solved from the 1st priority list topics. You can solve many questions easily. You need to be familiar with shortcuts such as how to convert percentage into fraction and fraction into percentage or ratio into fraction or percentage and vice versa.

2nd Priority 

Once you can solve topics from the 1st priority list, you can then start practicing the topics in the 2nd priority list. This includes : –

1. Time and Work
2. Time, Speed and Distance
3. Boat and Stream

The questions asked relating to Time and Work are topic based. You should know the concept. With a clear concept about time and work, you can easily solve the questions.

In Time, Speed and Distance, three types of questions can be asked about normal time, speed and distance question; relative time, speed and distance questions and questions relating to boat and speed. 

It may be noted that in such questions, questions related to average, percentage or ratio may be also included.

3rd Priority

The 3rd priority list includes: –

1. Mensuration
2. Probability

In Mensuration, the problems of finding the areas, volume and surface area of geometric figures are asked.

Probability means possibility. It is a branch of mathematics that deals with the occurrence of a random event.

Miscellaneous

This includes : –

1. Crypt Arithmetic
2. Venn Diagram

The sample papers recently released by the Consortium of NLU in their official website included questions relating to crypto arithmetic. 

Venn Diagram questions are one of the easiest questions in CLAT quantitative techniques syllabus. Many of you fail to recognise venn diagram questions. One simple trick to recognise such questions is to look for words ‘both’, ‘at least’, ‘none of the above’, then such questions can be of venn diagram section.  

The CLAT quantitative techniques questions will be both logical based as well as pure maths. It is essential to know that the CLAT quantitative techniques questions need not necessarily be pure maths. Logical based quantitative techniques questions can also be asked from you.

Approach for CLAT Quantitative Techniques Questions

With consistent practice, you can ace the quantitative techniques for CLAT. Following are the approaches you can follow for CLAT quantitative techniques question: –

1. Passage based D.I

Since the pattern has changed from CLAT 2020, passages are now being given more weight. The CLAT quantitative techniques questions will also be based on passage based patterns. To improve at reading passages and analyzing the information provided, you must practice passage-based D.I.

2. Topic based D.I

While practising D.I, make sure that you practise them on topic based. When you practise D.I on topic based you can easily understand the pattern of questions and can clear your concept easily.

4. Strong Calculation

5. Timed Practice

To ensure that you allot enough time to each exam question, cultivate good time management skills. You can improve your speed by practicing answering questions in the allotted time.

6. Practice Regularly

7. Practice Previous Years’ Question Paper and Mocks

While solving questions, analyse your mistakes. You must avoid making silly mistakes. Identify the areas where you face challenges and work on improving them.

9. Do not be Afraid
