The Vice-Chancellor’s Merit Scholarship was established to attract top achieving financially disadvantaged Australian high school students to UTS undergraduate degrees. 

Scholarship Applicant Criteria: 
To be eligible for the Scholarship, an applicant must meet the following criteria:
•  Australian or New Zealand citizen, or the holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or permanent humanitarian visa; and
•  Current school leaver; or gap year student who graduated in the previous year, where no tertiary study was undertaken in the gap year; and
•  Have received an offer through UAC for a UTS undergraduate degree; and
•  Intended full-time enrolment in a UTS undergraduate degree, which is their first undergraduate degree; and
•  Academic excellence in the final year of high school (ATAR of 90.0 or above, excluding bonus points); and
•  Have applied for and/or been assessed under the Equity Scholarship or Educational Access Scheme via UAC, and therein demonstrated financial disadvantage (at the time of Scholarship selection).

Value of Scholarship: 
The UTS Vice-Chancellor's Merit Scholarship is valued as AUD$12,500 per year for the standard duration of UTS Course.

Scholarship Application Guide: 
1.  Vice-Chancellor's Merit Scholarship - Equity Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, you will need to apply to Centrelink (or make a claim) for the Youth Allowance/Abstudy or other Centrelink benefit applicable to you. Only applicants receiving a Centrelink means-tested income support payment, or demonstrating exceptional financial hardship with supporting evidence will be considered.

Steps to complete a Uac Equity Scholarship application:
  • Apply for a means-tested income support payment (such as Youth Allowance, Austudy, Abstudy) via Centrelink - click on `Register' online. Centrelink will provide you with your own Centrelink Reference Number (CRN)
  • Please apply for a UAC Equity Scholarship with your Centrelink Customer Reference Number (CRN). Apply at uac.edu.au/equity/
  • If your Centrelink claim wasn’t approved at the time of applying you will need to update your UAC Equity Scholarship application at UAC once you receive confirmation that your benefit has been approved.  Ask them to refresh your 2023/2024 UAC Equity Scholarship application;
  • You must submit or update your details on UAC website by the closing date.
2.  Application to UTS
These scholarships are awarded automatically following the release of ATAR results in January, although you must be enrolling as a local student and have a University of Technology Sydney course preference on your UAC application to be eligible. The application form is optional and can be completed online at the Elite School Leaver Scholarship Application Form.
