* Brief Shivpuran •

With the efforts of Chanchala, obtaining the command of Parvati, Tumburu recited the story of Shiva Purana on Vindhya Mountain and saved Binduga from the vampire womb and the two couples were happy in Shivadham

Sutji said - Shaunak! One day Chanchala, engrossed in ecstasy, went to Umadevi and bowed down and she started praising her with folded hands.

She said - Girirajnandini!

Chakshula Skandamata Ume! Humans have always used you. Shambhupriya, the giver of all happiness! You are Brahmaswarupini. Vishnu and Brahma etc. are served by the gods. You are Saguna and Nirguna and you are the subtle Sachidanandaswarupini Adya Prakriti. You are the creator, maintainer and destroyer of the world. You are also the shelter of all the three qualities. You are the abode of these three deities Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwar and you are the supreme power who gives them the best reputation.

Sutji says - Shaunak. The one who had attained salvation, that fickle mind bowed down silent after praising Maheshwar's wife Uma in this way. Tears of love welled up in his eyes. Then Shankarpriya Bhaktavatsala Parvati Devi, full of compassion addressed the chala and said with great love as follows-

Parvati said - Let's go friend. Beautiful! I am very pleased with this praise of yours. Tell me, are you asking for a boon? I do not owe anything to you. Let's say - Sinless Giriraj

Miss ! I do not know where my husband Bindug is at present, how he is doing. Kalyanamayi Deenvatsale! I can be Maheshwari Mahadevi, take such measures as you can be united with that husband of yours. My husband was infatuated with a Shudra caste prostitute and lived in sin. He had died before me. Don't know what speed they attained.

Girija said-Daughter, your husband named Bindug was a great sinner. His conscience was very dirty. After death, that great fool who consumed prostitute, after suffering many types of sorrows in hell for countless years, that sinful soul has become a vampire on Vindhya mountain to suffer the rest of his sins. At this time he is in the vampire-state and is facing different types of troubles. That evil person lives there drinking air And always suffers all kinds of suffering.

Sutji says - Shaunak! Hearing these words of Gauri-Devi, Chanchala, who observes the best fast, became saddened by the great sorrow of her husband at that time. Then after stabilizing the mind, that Brahmin woman asked again after saluting Maheshwari with a distressed heart.

Let's say - Maheshwari Mahadevi! Have mercy on me and save that wicked husband of mine who has done bad deeds. Devi! my sickly minded

Tell me quickly by what method that sinful husband can get the best speed. Greetings to you.

Parvati said- If your husband listens to the virtuous story of Shiva-Purana, then he will go to the best path after crossing all the miseries.

Hearing these words of Gauri Devi with sweet words like nectar, bowing her head with folded hands, bowed down to her repeatedly and prayed to Parvati Devi for the purification of all the sins of her husband and to get the best speed, that 'There should be arrangements to recite Shiv Puran to my husband. Got a lot of mercy. That Bhaktavatsala Maheshwari Girirajkumari, calling Gandharvaraj Tumburu, who sings the best praise of Lord Shiva, said to him happily - 'Tumburo! You have love for Lord Shiva. My friend Chachula had a husband but he became a wicked prostitute. leaving the routine of eating and drinking

Started living impure. Due to anger, his intelligence was clouded, he was not able to discern his duties. Eating food, hating gentlemen and taking donations of contaminated things - this had become his natural karma. He used to commit violence with weapons, eat with his left hand, torture the poor and cruelly set fire to other people's houses. Loved Chandalas and was in contact with prostitutes everyday. He was very evil. That sinner, abandoning his wife, used to enjoy only in the company of the wicked. He remained trapped in misconduct till his death. Then when the end came, he died. That abode of sinners is terrible. Went to Yampur and after consuming many hells there, that evil spirit creature has now become a vampire on Vindhya mountain.

चंचला के प्रयत्न से पार्वती की आज्ञा पाकर तुम्बुरु ने विंध्य पर्वत पर शिव पुराण की कथा का पाठ किया और बिन्दुगा को पिशाच के गर्भ से बचाया और दोनों युगल शिवधाम में सुखी हुए

सूतजी बोले- शौनक ! एक दिन परमानन्दमें निमग्न हुई चञ्चलाने उमादेवीके पास जाकर प्रणाम किया और दोनों हाथ जोड़कर वह उनकी स्तुति करने लगी।

बोली- गिरिराजनन्दिनी!

चक्षुला स्कन्दमाता उमे! मनुष्योंने सदा आपका सेवन किया है। समस्त सुखोंको देनेवाली शम्भुप्रिये ! आप ब्रह्मस्वरूपिणी हैं। विष्णु और ब्रह्मा आदि देवताओद्वारा सेव्य हैं। आप ही सगुणा और निर्गुणा हैं तथा आप ही सूक्ष्मा सचिदानन्दस्वरूपिणी आद्या प्रकृति हैं। आप ही संसारकी सृष्टि, पालन और संहार करनेवाली हैं। तीनों गुणोंका आश्रय भी आप ही हैं। ब्रह्मा, विष्णु और महेश्वर- इन तीनों देवताओंका आवास स्थान तथा उनकी उत्तम प्रतिष्ठा करनेवाली पराशक्ति आप ही हैं।

सूतजी कहते हैं- शौनक। जिसे सद्गति प्राप्त हो चुकी थी, वह चञ्चला इस प्रकार महेश्वरपत्नी उमाकी स्तुति करके सिर झुकाये चुप हो गयी। उसके नेत्रोंमें प्रेमके आँसू उमड़ आये थे। तब करुणासे भरी हुई शंकरप्रिया भक्तवत्सला पार्वतीदेवीने चलाको सम्बोधित करके बड़े प्रेमसे इस प्रकार कहा-

पार्वती बोलीं- सखी चले। सुन्दरि ! मैं तुम्हारी की हुई इस स्तुतिसे बहुत प्रसन्न हूँ बोलो, क्या वर माँगती हो ? तुम्हारे लिये मुझे कुछ भी अदेय नहीं है। चला बोली- निष्पाप गिरिराज

कुमारी ! मेरे पति बिन्दुग इस समय कहाँ हैं, उनकी कैसी गति हुई है-यह मैं नहीं जानती ! कल्याणमयी दीनवत्सले ! मैं हो सकता है। अपने उन पतिदेवसे जिस प्रकार संयुक्त हो सकूँ, वैसा ही उपाय कीजिये महेश्वरि महादेवि । मेरे पति एक शूद्रजातीय वेश्याके प्रति आसक्त थे और पापमें ही डूबे रहते थे। उनकी मृत्यु मुझसे पहले ही हो गयी थी। न जाने वे किस गतिको प्राप्त हुए।

गिरिजा बोलीं-बेटी तुम्हारा बिन्दुग नामवाला पति बड़ा पापी था। उसका अन्तःकरण बड़ा ही दूषित था। वेश्याका उपभोग करनेवाला वह महामूढ़ मरनेके बाद नरकमें पड़ा अगणित वर्षोंतक नरकमें नाना प्रकारके दुःख भोगकर वह पापात्मा अपने शेष पापको भोगनेके लिये विन्ध्यपर्वतपर पिशाच हुआ है। इस समय वह पिशाच- अवस्थामें ही है और नाना प्रकारके क्लेश उठा रहा है। वह दुष्ट वहीं वायु पीकर रहता

और सदा सब प्रकारके कष्ट सहता है।

सूतजी कहते हैं— शौनक ! गौरी- देवीकी यह बात सुनकर उत्तम व्रतका पालन करनेवाली चञ्चला उस समय पतिके महान् दुःखसे दुःखी हो गयी। फिर मनको स्थिर करके उस ब्राह्मणपत्रीने व्यथित हृदयसे महेश्वरीको प्रणाम करके पुनः पूछा ।

चला बोली- महेश्वरि महादेवि ! मुझपर कृपा कीजिये और दूषित कर्म करनेवाले मेरे उस दुष्ट पतिका अब उद्धार कर दीजिये। देवि! कुत्सित बुद्धिवाले मेरे

उस पापात्मा पतिको किस उपाय से उत्तम गति प्राप्त हो सकती है, यह शीघ्र बताइये। आपको नमस्कार है।

पार्वतीने कहा- तुम्हारा पति यदि शिव- पुराणकी पुण्यमयी उत्तम कथा सुने तो सारी दुर्गतिको पार करके वह उत्तम गतिका भागी

अमृतके समान मधुर अक्षरोंसे युक्त गौरीदेवीका यह वचन आदरपूर्वक सुनकर चञ्चलाने हाथ जोड़ मस्तक झुकाकर उन्हें बारंबार प्रणाम किया और अपने पतिके समस्त पापोंकी शुद्धि तथा उत्तम गतिकी प्राप्तिके लिये पार्वतीदेवीसे यह प्रार्थना की कि 'मेरे पतिको शिवपुराण सुनानेकी व्यवस्था होनी चाहिये उस ब्राह्मणपत्रीके बारंबार प्रार्थना करनेपर शिवप्रिया गौरीदेवीको बड़ी दया आयी। उन भक्तवत्सला महेश्वरी गिरिराजकुमारीने भगवान् शिवकी उत्तम कीर्तिका गान करनेवाले गन्धर्वराज तुम्बुरुको बुलाकर उनसे प्रसन्नतापूर्वक इस प्रकार कहा- 'तुम्बुरो ! तुम्हारी भगवान् शिवमें प्रीति है। तुम मेरे मनकी बातोंको जानकर मेरे अभीष्ट कार्योंको सिद्ध करनेवाले हो। इसलिये में तुमसे एक बात कहती हूँ। तुम्हारा कल्याण हो तुम मेरी इस सखीके साथ शीघ्र ही विन्ध्यपर्वतपर जाओ। वहीं एक महाघोर और भयंकर पिशाच रहता है। उसका वृत्तान्त तुम आरम्भसे ही सुनो। मैं तुमसे प्रसन्नतापूर्वक सब कुछ बताती हूँ। पूर्व जन्ममें वह पिशाच बिन्दुग नामक ब्राह्मण था। मेरी इस सखी चचुलाका पति था परंतु वह दुष्ट वेश्यागामी हो गया। खान-संध्या आदि नित्यकर्म छोड़कर

अपवित्र रहने लगा। क्रोधके कारण उसकी बुद्धिपर मूढ़ता छा गयी थी वह कर्तव्याकर्तव्यका विवेक नहीं कर पाता था। अभक्ष्यभक्षण, सज्जनोंसे द्वेष और दूषित वस्तुओंका दान लेना—यही उसका स्वाभाविक कर्म बन गया था। वह अस्त्र- शस्त्र लेकर हिंसा करता, बायें हाथसे खाता, दीनोंको सताता और क्रूरतापूर्वक पराये घरोंमें आग लगा देता था। चाण्डालोंसे प्रेम करता और प्रतिदिन वेश्याके सम्पर्क में रहता था। बड़ा दुष्ट था। वह पापी अपनी पत्नीका परित्याग करके दुष्टोंके सङ्गमें ही आनन्द मानता था। वह मृत्युपर्यन्त दुराचारमें ही फँसा रहा। फिर अन्तकाल आनेपर उसकी मृत्यु हो गयी। वह पापियोंके भोगस्थान घोर । यमपुरमें गया और वहाँ बहुत-से नरकोंका उपभोग करके वह दुष्टात्मा जीव इस समय विन्ध्यपर्वतपर पिशाच बना हुआ है।
