The UK Visa and Immigration Authority has approved a range of Languagecert tests as Secure English Language Tests for student and work visas.

Starting on December 19, the company’s Academic and General SELT tests will be accessible for use. These tests are intended to evaluate an applicant’s English language proficiency for UK work and student visas.

Marios Molfetas, chief languages officer of LanguageCert, stated at the UK ENIC conference in early December that “this is a very important milestone for us.”

These assessments, which are for skills and academic qualifications and are based on real-life scenarios, are heavily reliant on research and stakeholder feedback.We made the deliberate decision to present actual exams with actual life scenarios going forward.

With “extremely secure” testing technology, the exams are scheduled to be administered via the LanguageCert SELT Center Network. Additionally, Molfetas mentioned that starting in early 2024, the tests would be accessible online.

According to the announcement, the Academic test was created “in response to demand from institutions” for an evaluation tool that could accurately gauge a student’s English proficiency in a classroom.

LanguageCert stated that the General SELT test refers to CEFR standards and is intended for applicants seeking UK skilled worker and health and care worker visas.

“We pledge to consistently assess and fulfill the changing requirements of our wide range of users, guaranteeing the delivery of safe, pertinent, and trustworthy assessments. LanguageCert Academic and General are examples of this,” continued Molfetas.

The ESOL 4-skills SELT provision for work and study, which is currently approved by LanguageCert for UKVI purposes, “remains approved until further notice,” according to LanguageCert. UK ENIC also conducts an independent evaluation of the tests.
