What is NMMS Scholarship,
National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) was launched at the central level in 2008 by the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Human Resource Development. These scholarships were created to provide financial help to the financially weak meritorious students. The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage poor children to pursue secondary education i.e. class 9 to class 12 by providing an amount of Rs 12,000 annually.

NMMS Scholarship Amount Details 2021
National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship is sponsored by the Central Government of India. In this, scholarship is given to about 1 lakh meritorious students from class 9 to 12, the duration of which does not exceed four years. Every student receives Rs 12,000 per year, which means he is entitled to Rs 1,000 per month.

Eligibility Criteria
To get the NMMS Scholarship, it is mandatory for the students to fulfill certain prerequisites. Every child is required to fulfill the following mandatory requirements:
1. The student must have been able to appear in class 9 by securing at least 55 percent marks in class 8. (5 percent relaxation for SC/ST students)
2. The applicant should be a regular student of a government, government aided or local body school.
3. The collective income of the student’s family should not exceed 1.5 lakh per annum.
Application Process of NMMS Scholarship

Note You are advised to keep the scanned copies of your required documents before starting the application process.
- Register yourself as a new user in the National Scholarship Portal.
- Click on Central Schemes and select Department of School Education and Literacy.
- Now start your application process by selecting the National Means Cum Merit Scholarship link.
- Fill the required details like educational qualification, Aadhar card number, school enrollment number, state domicile and bank details etc.
- On successful registration, you will be given Application ID which you will use as Login ID on NSP. This IT will come in handy for you as well.
- Students who are studying in class 9 or 10 will have to apply under Pre-Matric scholarship while students studying in class 11 and 12 will have to apply under Post-Matric scholarship.
- Fill the details carefully like Name, Date of Birth, Email ID, Mobile Number and Identity Proof etc.
- Upload all the required documents and save as draft.
- Finally submit the completed application form.

Terms and Conditions
Before applying for National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship, the applicant must keep in mind the following essential terms and conditions:
- A student can apply for only one scholarship under any scheme.
- The applicant must have an account with any public sector bank or scheduled bank having core banking facilities. It is better if the account is in SBI SBI.
- The applicant must have secured a minimum of 60 percent marks in class 10 to continue the scholarship. (5 percent relaxation for SC/ST students)
- SBI SBI ensures that the scholarship is disbursed in one go once the funds come in from the ministry.
- The scholarship is not for out-of-country students.
NMMS Scholarship Selection Process
To appear in the scholarship exam, the student must have passed class 7 with a minimum of 55 percent marks (5 percent relaxation for SC/ST students). Each state/UT will conduct its own examination to award scholarships to the students. The state level exam consists of the following tests:
- Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT): This includes the subjects taught in Classes 7 and 8 of Science, Mathematics, and Social Sciences.
- Mental Aptitude Test (MAT): MAT tests the critical thinking and reasoning ability of the students. Questions are asked from Classification, Numerical Series, Analogy, Pattern Perception, Hidden Figures, etc.

Declaration of NMMS Scholarship Results
The following conditions may apply for any student to get selected in the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme:
- It is mandatory for the student to be successful in both the MAT and SAT exams by securing a minimum of 40 percent marks in aggregate. For SC/ST students, this cut off is of 32 percent marks.
- Also, the student must have secured a minimum of 55 per cent marks in class 7 examinations. (Relaxation of 5% is given to SC/ST students). NMMS Result Date – January/February 2020
