As described by Acharya Bharatmuni – vibhavanubhavavyabhicharisamyogadrasanishpatih – that is, rasa is produced by the combination of vibhava, anubhava and vyabhicharibhava. This means that ‘rati’ present in the mind of a compassionate person through vibhava, anubhava and communicative bhava changes into the form of ‘rasa’. To know in detail about Ras in Hindi, read this blog till the end.

What is juice?

The word ‘rasa’ is formed from the combination of the root ‘rasa’ and the suffix ‘ach’. in Sanskrit language Origin of juice ‘Rasyate Iti Ras’ It is done in this way, that is, that which gives taste or pleasure is the same juice. The literal meaning of rasa is ‘joy’. The immense pleasure that is felt by reading or listening to poetry or contemplating it is called rasa.

characteristics of juice

Following are some of the characteristics of juice:

  1. Rasa is full of self-illumination and knowledge.
  2. Feelings are pleasant, sad, but when they turn into rasa, they become blissful.
  3. The juice is intact.
  4. Rasa is neither alternative knowledge nor non-vikalpa knowledge, hence it is supernatural.
  5. Rasa-Vedian contact is zero, that is, in the time of Rasaswad, the social remains completely absorbed.
  6. Ras Brahmanand is a sibling. Therefore, the joy of ras in Hindi is like that of Brahmanand (samadhi).

lines of great poets about rasa

Explaining the importance of juice Acharya Bharatmuni himself wrote-

Nahi rasaate kaschidarthaah pravarate.

like that Vishwanath Kaviraj has also written

Satvodrekadkhand-Swaprakashananda Chittamayah.
Vedyantarsparshshuno basvad sibling:
Lokottara miracle pranah kaishchitpramatrbhih.
svakaravadabhintvenayamasvadyate rasah

The meaning of the above lines is that by suppressing Rajoguna and Tamoguna in the heart, the ‘Rasa’ is realized by the beautiful and clean light of Sattvaguna. (There are three gunas of nature, Satoguna, Tamogun, Rajoguna, which have been talked about here but are considered to be the best of the three. During the interview of this unique ‘Rasa’, there is no touch of other Vedic subjects.

Hence Brahman is like samadhi (samadhi). The supernaturality of this rasa is that even after being separated from the soul, there is an indistinct perception of ‘gauroham’, ‘kanoham’ etc. in the body; In the same way, the blissful and miraculous ‘Rasa’ appears to be inseparable from the soul even though it is separated from the soul.

Mammatacharya, the founder of the Ras sect (In the eleventh century) Kavyananda is called ‘Brahmanand Sahodar’, that is, the joy experienced by the Yogi.

The original source of Brahmananda’s imagination regarding rasa There is Taittiriya Upanishad in which it is said – ‘Raso vai sah’, meaning bliss is Brahman.

Acharya Ramchandra Shukla, Dr. Nagendra etc. Acharya Shukla, like the Sanskrit Rasavadi Acharyas, has considered the rasa to be cosmic and not as supernatural and has given a cosmic interpretation of it. They regard the state of rasa as the ‘free state of the heart’.

Vishwanath Kaviraj has mentioned,

Aviruddha Virudha or Virupatumakshama.
Asvadankurkandohundred Bhava: Establishment possibly.

That is, aviruddha or virudhabhava (which cannot be hidden), that basic sense of taste is called Permanent emotion. Rati, anger, enthusiasm, hatred, feelings are there in the heart of man from birth in the form of lust, which does not require any teacher to teach. This condition is called ‘Vasana’ in classical language. As such, permanent feelings are present in the human’s soul in a lustful form.

At the root of a rasa there is a permanent feeling. Hence the number of Rasas is also ‘Nine’, which are called ‘Navras’. Basically there are only nine Rasas. Later Acharyas recognized two more expressions (Vatsalya and Bhagavad Vishak Rati) as permanent house. Thus the number of permanent bhavas reaches eleven and from which the number of rasas is also eleven.
