Prosecutors in the ongoing criminal trial against Sam Bankman-Fried have requested an instruction that a defendant’s intent to repay misappropriated or fraudulently obtained funds is not a defense. Bankman-Fried’s defense counsel countered that the US only has crimes that are defined by statute, and “some vague feeling or belief that something wrong has been done, or that some law should have prevented it, is insufficient to convict anyone of any charge whatsoever.” The trial will resume on Oct. 26 after a week-long hiatus.
