Humans are unique, and the Yurt is the perfect example of their uniqueness.

We mostly heard about Yurt in stories, or we precept Yurt as the traditional way of living. But today, again, people’s uniqueness has bought the Yurt in the living trend.

The Yurt is a circular structure made of lattice walls and covered with an insulating tent and is easily portable too. People are again living in used for the reason of financial freedom and the unique way of living. Its construction process is exciting, and today, we will learn about Yurt in detail.

Let’s start with materials used in the construction of the Yurt.

  Materials Used

✓ wooden platform or deck: We use a circular wooden platform to construct a modern yurt. In ancient times Yurt was constructed on the ground

✓ wooden lattice wall: wooden lattice walls are light wooden structures that can be folded as needed. They contain a diamond shape when extended or used as walls

✓ trellis ceiling framework: the ceiling of the Yurt is mostly a wooden trellis. Trellis is a support where multiple branches are connected to a point.

✓ crown: the crown of the Yurt is placed on the top of the Yurt to support the trellis of the ceiling. In a modern yurt, it is primarily a transparent plastic lead or glass lead.

✓ coverings: canvas, waterproof materials, and insulating covers are primarily used in the Yurt. But you can use up to 5 coverings depending on the temperature.

✓ hardware: nails, screws, bolts etc. hardware is needed for numerous small works.

✓ internal structure: doors, windows, stoves, etc., all are the things needed to make the Yurt habitable.

✓ sanitation and drainage: it is hard to maintain sanitation and drainage in the Yurt. You should separate places and buy the sanitation system as per your requirement

I guess the Yurt is the cheapest means of building a living habitat. A yurt can be built up with a cost between 7500$-35000$. But hiring the builders can raise the prices between 11000$ -44000$.

Due to its low-cost today, many Yurts are built yearly for commercial purposes. Many people use it as a residential hotel, some as a storage site, and many rent it in Air BnB. You can easily earn between 50$-350$ per night depending upon the Yurt’s condition, location, and services if you lease your Yurt on Airbnb.

Which is Better, the Tiny house or the Yurt?

Both tiny houses and the Yurt have their speciality. And they can be compared:

specification tiny house yurt
cost of building 30000$-60000$ 7500$-35000$
ease in  portable easier hard as all body part is to be separated and assembled again.
building process hard mostly need expert easier in comparison to tiny houses
space narrow as space limit to 8*30 sq. ft(max. length*max.width) wide as there is no space limit
maintenance cost expensive in comparison to the Yurt and cheaper in comparison to normal houses. Cheaper in comparison to both tiny houses and average house

Which places are Best for the Yurt?

It does not matter how luxurious your Yurt is or what materials are used there until it gives you a feeling of comfort and peace. For the sense of peace and comfort, the thing that affects the most is the place where your Yurt is located, which meets your satisfaction level.

And it is not always that your feelings remain the same. They change with the situation where you are, how you are living, and at what place you are living. So here we will suggest some areas that might meet your satisfaction level and that are best for living with the Yurt based on the reviews of the post yurt habited people.

yurts should not be the option in extreme climates usually. But they can be used with suitable insulating materials.

tested by ancient Mongolians for many decades, it has been found that yurts have worked efficiently in frigid climates to -50°C. At the same time, yurts do not have any history of living in scorching places.

today, many yurts have been built up on lakesides or clod places or in large jungles for commercial purposes for the beautiful scenario. You can also do the same.

you should be conscious about water and power while building a yurt, so instead, try to make the Yurt in a place near essential services.

Things to keep in Mind while Building Yurt

✓ permits: it depends upon the ongoing government policy whether you need tickets or not. So take a license from the government before building a yurt.

✓ budget: you should be careful while adding the features like kitchen, bathroom, and work studio as they affect our budget in massive amounts. Typically your additional features cost higher than a Yurt

✓ power/water: these are the main problem in tiny houses and the Yurt. You should be conscious and look for a year-round solution. E.g., if you are building a yurt in a snowy place, the solar system may not be for you.

✓ climate: this is what you should be conscious of while building the Yurt. It is because the covering materials are different from place to place. E.g., a high-quality insulating covering is needed in extreme climates

✓ temperature controller: you cannot entirely rely on insulating blankets. While building a yurt, you should be conscious about temperature controllers like AC, fan, stove, etc..

  How Does the Yurt Work?

the crown of the Yurt is partly open to let the air circulation, and the circular transparent crown, mainly used as a skylight, is called toono.

the roof is penetrated to pass the chimney pipe. The chimney pipe comes from the fire-burning stove used to heat the Yurt.

although the wooden lattice is light, the circular structure makes them able to resist heavy weight.the lattice handles the whole roof tensione.

the circular structure of the Yurt has many benefits. Some of them are:

~  it makes the yurt wind-resistant in every direction

~  the circular structure makes it efficiently heated or cooled.

~  the interior becomes more specious in comparison to other shapes

the door is a little vulnerable and weak in comparison to the lattice wall, so you should be careful about the  door while building it

the windows are mostly buildup of transparent plastics, and over is the coverings which can be folded as necessary

A firing stove is mainly used to heat the Yurt, and the insulating coverings prevent it from Yurt cooling down

the sloping covering the structure of the roof prevents the lattice and rooftop meet point from tearing off

the rope which ties the coverings with the pole is a high-quality rope in a modern yurt, whereas, in traditional, it was made from animal leather.

the flooring is done mainly with a wooden deck

traditionally, toilets and bathrooms were far from the Yurt, but in a modern yurt, they are adjusted as required
