1. World Suicide Prevention Day observed on 10 September

• World Suicide Prevention Day is observed every year on 10 September. The theme of World Suicide Prevention Day for the year 2022 has been set as ‘Creating hope through action’ i.e. “Creating hope through action among people”. Its objective is to spread awareness about mental health among the people and prevent the increasing cases of suicide. It was started by the International Association of Suicide Prevention (IASP) in the year 2003.

2. Indian Army and Air Force conduct joint exercise ‘Gagan Strike’ in Punjab

• In September 2022, the Indian Army and Air Force have conducted a joint exercise ‘Gagan Strike’ in Punjab. The exercise was conducted between the Army’s Kharga Corps and the Air Force. In this, the practice of protecting from the enemy and eliminating his deep penetration was done. The joint exercise was led by Lieutenant General Prateek Sharma, General Officer Commanding, Kharga Corps.

3. Military station in Arunachal named after country’s first CDS Bipin Rawat

• On September 10, 2022, a military station and road in Kibithu, Arunachal Pradesh was named after the late General Bipin Rawat, the first Chief of Defense Staff of the Indian Army. The Kibithu military camp has been named ‘General Bipin Rawat Military Garrison’.

• To mark the completion of eight years of Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) on September 09, 2022, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has announced the launch of a program named ‘Swachh Amrit Mahotsav’. The event will be held from September 17 to October 02, 2022.

• During this two week long program various activities on the topic of cleanliness will be organized. The focus will be on mobilizing civic action and commitment towards the vision of building a garbage free city.

7. Singapore Confers ‘Meritorious Service Medal’ to Former Indian Navy Chief Sunil Lanba

• Former Chief of Indian Navy Admiral Sunil Lanba has been awarded the Singapore’s prestigious Vishisht Seva Medal ‘Meritorious Service Medal’. Lanba was awarded by Singapore’s Defense Minister Ng Ing Hen on Thursday at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Defence, for his contribution to strengthen the long-standing bilateral defense ties between the Indian Navy and the Republic of Singapore Navy. Under the leadership of Lamba, a roadmap was drawn to enhance the dialogue between the navies of the two countries.

8. The archaeologist who discovered the temple under the Babri Masjid, B. B. Lal passed away

• World renowned archaeologist Braj Basi Lal (B. B. Lal), who discovered the temple under the Babri Masjid on September 10, 2022, has passed away at the age of 101. Born in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh and Director General of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) from 1968-1972, B. B. Lal was awarded Padma Vibhushan in the year 2021 and Padma Bhushan in 2000. He is also counted among the youngest Director General of ASI.

9. Odisha Government Launches ‘Umbrella’ Scheme For Rain Water Harvesting

• Recently the Water Resources Department of Odisha State has started ‘Chhatra’ Scheme (CHHATA). The full form of CHHATA is Community Harnessing and Harvesting Rainwater Artificially from Terrace to Aquifer. The state cabinet had approved an investment of Rs 270 crore.

• The objective of this scheme is to relieve the increasing pressure on groundwater and improve the depleting groundwater level. A target of 373.52 crore liters of water has been set in five years. It will be implemented for a period of five years.

10. National Maritime Heritage Complex to be constructed in Lothal, Gujarat

• The ‘National Maritime Heritage Complex’ (NMHC) is being constructed at Lothal, a historic city of the Indus Valley Civilization in Gujarat, by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. The project will be completed in various phases (Phase-1A, Phase-1B and Phase-2). Its first phase will be completed by March 2024. The master plan of the project related to this complex was approved in March 2019.
