Overview of JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria

The candidates who are looking forward to taking the JEE advanced examination should be able to meet certain criteria for eligibility, owing to which they would be allowed to take the examination. If a candidate fails to meet any one of the JEE advanced eligibility parameters, they shall be disqualified from taking the exam.

JEE Advanced Eligibility 2023 (for Indian Nationals)

A candidate needs to fulfil five criteria in order to appear in JEE Advanced 2023. The eligibility for JEE Advanced Engineering aspirants is mentioned below.

Performance in JEE Main 2023

• The students should have passed the JEE Main 2023 exam (Paper 1).
• The candidates should also be among the top 2,50,000.
• The percentage break out of the many categories of candidates to be shortlisted are:10% for GEN EWS
  • 27% seats for OBC – NCL
  • 15% for SC
  • 7.5% for ST
  • 40.5% is OPEN FOR ALL
• Within all the categories mentioned above, 5% horizontal reservation is available for PwD candidates.

Age Limit of the Candidates

As far as the JEE Advanced Eligibility 2023 is concerned, one such important criterion for eligibility is the age of a candidate. They should have been born on and after October 1st, 1998. Whereas the candidates under the SC, ST, OBC and PwD categories are provided with a relaxation of 5 years, which means, the reserved candidates should have been born on or after October 1st, 1993.

Appearance in the 12th Class Examinations

The candidates who look forward to appearing in the JEE Advanced examination must have completed their Class 12th examination with compulsorily MPC subjects (Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry).

Number of Attempts

The JEE advanced eligibility allows the candidates to attempt the JEE Advanced examination a maximum of two times in two consecutive years.

Admission at IITs

The candidates who were admitted to an IIT irrespective of whether they continued with the program, are not eligible to appear for JEE Advanced examination. 

OR

Candidates whose admissions were cancelled from IITs in the previous academic sessions are not eligible for the JEE Advanced Examination 2023. However, the candidates who had joined any preparatory course in any of the IITs for the first time in the year 2022, are eligible to appear for the exam.

JEE Advanced 2023 Eligibility Criteria (for Foreign Nationals)

Any candidate who falls in the below-mentioned categories will be considered as a Foreign National for the exam of JEE Advanced. 

• Non-OCI (Overseas Citizens of India) 
• Non-PIO (Persons of Indian Origin)
• Non-citizens of India (naturalised or by birth)
• Candidates whose parents do not qualify as citizens of India and therefore do not come under the OCI/PIO category when the JEE Advanced registration was done.

Foreign Nationals: Seats

• There will be a cap of 10% on the total number of seats allotted to Foreign Nationals

Foreign Nationals: Reservation

• Foreign Nationals will not come under the ambit of reservation of seats under SC, ST, GEN-EWS, OBC- NCL, or PwD, as made mandatory by the Government of India

Foreign Centers for JEE Advanced 2023

• Singapore
• Dhaka (Bangladesh)
• Kathmandu (Nepal)
• Dubai (UAE)
