Uranus for Kids Fact Number 1: Axis

Uranus is tipped sideways on its axis which means that its seasons can last for years, a nice 10 year summer might be nice, but it wouldn’t be much different from their winters – because of the distance from the sun Uranus is usually around the same temperature.

Uranus for Kids Fact Number 2: Uranus Blue Colour

Uranus is made mostly of gas, it also has a lot of ice because of the extremely cold temperatures (it’s usually around – 375 degrees!) but that’s not what gives it it’s blue colour, uranus’ supply of methane is what gives the planet its iconic blue colour, that sounds like it might be pretty smelly – maybe good that your nose would be too cold!

Uranus could be holding some secret treasure! Some scientists believe that there are diamonds on Uranus, pity we would probably freeze before we found them!

Uranus for Kids Fact Number 4: Moons

Uranus has A LOT of moons, all 27 of Uranus’ moons are named after Shakespeare characters, however they aren’t very big, which is probably why there’s room for so many!

Uranus for Kids Fact Number 5: We Can See It from Earth

Even though Uranus is one of the farthest planets from the sun we can see it from Earth without a telescope – just some binoculars! Uranus is so bright because it actually reflects more heat and light than it absorbs!
