Is Economics Compulsory for Law in JAMB?

NO!

Economics is not a COMPULSORY subject for Law.

This means that you can study Law at any University in Nigeria without Economics.

However, English, and Literature are the four (4) compulsory subjects for Law in JAMB.

NOTE:

For a start, you must have at least CREDIT (C) in Mathematics And English Language in your O’level (WAEC, NECO or NABTEB) before you can be offered admission to study Law.

WARNING:

Don’t apply for Law admission if you have a D7, F9, or E8 in Mathematics, English Language or in any of the compulsory required subjects for Law in JAMB.

Requirements To Study Law In Nigeria

  1. For a start, you need to have at least 5 credit passes in your O’level result (WAEC or NECO) including English and Mathematics not more than two (2) sittings before you can study Law in Nigeria. However, some schools required one sitting.
  2. You must have reached the AGE of sixteen (16) by the 31st day of October in the year of admission.
  3. Meet your school cut-off mark for Law.
  4. Have a good JAMB, WAEC, and Post UTME Score if any.

Direct Entry Requirements To Study Law In Nigeria

  1. A minimum of 5 credits in the Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations (SSCE/GCE) Ordinary Level Credits in a maximum of two (2) sittings.
  2. Degree (First Class/Second Class Upper) in related fields.
  3. Direct entry candidates are required to purchase the Direct Entry form through the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
  4. A minimum of Merit Pass in the National Certificate of Education (NCE), National Diploma (ND) and other Advanced Level Certificates.
  5. Other qualifications acceptable to the Senate of your University of choice, and being equivalent to (1) and (4) above. In addition to the above minimum admission requirements, candidates must also satisfy such Faculty/Departmental entry requirements.

Additional Information:

In a bid to ensure an even playing ground for all UTME and Direct entry Law candidates seeking admission this year, Higher institutions across the 36 states of the Federal Republic of Nigeria have a guideline for a list of subjects and possible combinations for candidates interested in the institution should sit for at the UTME.

For some schools, candidates with the wrong subject combination for Law are NOT barred from participating in the Pre-Admission Screening Exercise.

However, such a candidate will not be considered for admission except if the candidate considers a change of course or Change Of Institution.

Furthermore, It is advised that affected candidates should carefully check the JAMB brochure for a course whose requirement aligns with the subjects taken in JAMB.
