WHAT IS RSS

RSS FEED

RSS is ‘really simple syndication’ or ‘rich site summary’. RSS is a way of handling, or presenting information in an organised manner and sent out to subscribers any time information from  jobs, news, markets, products  and other websites is updated.

WHY USE RSS

Many people use Rss because they seek information regularly from several favourite websites daily, and check for updates all the time, individually from these websites. Subscribing to a site’s content through its Rss reduces the time and effort involved in checking websites  as these are conveniently distributed to your Feed Reader. Most companies have pre-programmed Rss feed on their websites. Content on Rss is read on Feed Readers also known as Feed Aggregator that are downloaded on Pc or mobile.

Readers come with different features and on most of them, you can arrange information into categories so that you get only what is relevant to your needs and interests. Some free Feed Readers for use on Pc or mobile are:

Feedly
Feeder Reader
Mozillar Thunderbird
My Yahoo
BBC news
Newsgator

  1. subscribe to a site’s Rss through the RSS/XML icon or
  2. subscribe to an Rss ‘notice’ after you have created an account with a feed reader of your choice
  3. Sign up with e.g Feedly,
  4. [ii] indicate the sites you want to receive feeds from by
    pasting or typing in the site’s url;
  5.  follow other instructions
