FIFA World Cup 2022- Argentina Won World Cup Title by Beating France 4-2 in a Penalty Shootout

On Sunday, December 18, 2022, Argentina taste a historic victory in FIFA World Cup 2022 the nail-biting finale match with France at the Lusail Stadium in Lusail, Qatar. Argentina won its 3rd World Cup title after 36 years by beating France 4-2 in a penalty shootout after a match tied by 3-3 goals. Lionel Messi, the captain of the Argentina team kisses the World Cup Trophy after honoring with the Golden Ball award, the best player award. Keeper Emiliano Martinez was the star of the match in the penalty shootout as he saved Coman’s penalty to give Argentina a big treat. He is also honored with the Golden glove award and Enzo Fernandez won the Young Player of the Tournament.

Argentina had a clear way in the first half with two goals lead, although France came back with two goals hit by Kylian Mbappe, with the first one coming off a penalty. Messi in the 108th minute scored again, only for Mbappe to make it 3-3 in the 118th minute, again off a penalty. The match went into penalties and result in Argentina’s favor 4-2. Argentina now becomes the 4th team to win 3 World Cup titles. Mbappe did a great play for France unfortunately, ended up with the runner-up title. He also honors with the golden boots award for his 8 goals.

In his crowning moment, Captain Lionel Messi’s light blue and white iconic jersey was covered by the robe the Emir of Qatar Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani made him wear just before he was handed a trophy. It is a garment worn by religious leaders or royalty and the moment Messi held this trophy was seen as the icing on the cake for Qatar. After a great winning, Lionel Messi insisted that he is not retiring from international football after defending Argentina for World Cup glory in Qatar. Messi said, “Retiring from a football career with this winning is exceptional but I love playing soccer. I enjoy being part of it and being a world champion, I want to enjoy a couple of more matches.”
