Children are always curious. With no schools, or staying at home makes them even more hungry to satisfy their inquisitiveness and knowledge. Kids like to explore and find out about new stuff. They are energised to learn new things. And as parents it’s our duty to channel this energy towards the right direction.
Amid the lockdown, as we are not being able to go out and explore or play, I have included a STEM Experiment daily in my little one’s routine to learn about as Everyday Science.

Rising Water Science Experiment
Things Required:
- A glass
- Match Sticks / Candles
- A tray
- Water
The magic happening in this experiment is that the water rises inside the inverted glass.

Things Required:

How to Make a Lemon Volcano
- Lemon
- Baking Soda
- Food Color (Optional)
- Liquid Detergent (Optional)
- A Knife
- A tray
Now this is my son's favorite. If your kids also have fun playing with water, [robably this one's for you.
Rainbow Science for Kids: Homemade Spectroscope
Things Required:
- Empty paper towel roll
- Craft knife and/or scissors
- Blank or old CD
- Pencil
- Small piece of cardboard or cardstock
- Tape
- Paint (optional)
Almost all kids are crazy about Rainbows. Imagine what will happen if you tell them that it is possible to bring the rainbows in their hands.... The answer is you'll become their favorite person in the world.
How to make a rainbow at home
Things Required:
- A glass filled with water
- A flashlight
- Tape
- White Paper
When talking about Rainbow's, you might also try this one. It requires even less things which are easily available at home.
Make Rainbows using CDs
Things Required:
- Bright patch of sunshine (or, if it's cloudy, you could use a flashlight)
- CD
- White surface (We used the wall and a white canvas)
Ok, this is another even more simpler way of seeing a Rainbow at home whenever we want.
Instant Ice: Winter Science Experiment for Kids
Things Required:
- Water bottles (we used a dozen, just in case!)
- Ice cubes
- Small bowl
- Towel
How you think your kids would react to see an instant ice structure forming in front of their ice. The answer is- they would be amazed and probably will say "Wow".
This experiment can be done with easily available things at home but just requires some time for its preparation though.
M&M science rainbow {STEAM for kids}
Things Required:
- A plate
- Water
- M&Ms
Here's an experiment to see a rainbow in a plate. If your kids like Rainbows or M&Ms...go for it.
Rainbow Jar - Playdough To Plato
Things Required:
- A tall, see-through container (I used a clean mason jar.)
- Honey
- Light corn syrup
- Dish soap (either blue like Dawn or green like Palmolive)
- Olive oil
- Rubbing alcohol
- Water
- Food coloring
- A dropper
Here's another Rainbow experiment - Rainbow in a Jar. Makes kids understand the different types of liquids we use in our daily life. They understand how all liquids are not like water. They can learn about their density, viscosity or solubilities.
Frozen Paint – Process Art for Kids
Things Required:
- Acrylic Paints
- Water
- Ice Tray
- Popsicle Sticks or Toothpicks
Although it's not much of a Science experiment but trust me, kids love this.
Science for Kids: Exploring How Water Travels Through Leaves
Things Required:
- Leaves or Flowers
- Scissors
- A glass
- Water
- Food coloring
- Magnifying glass (optional)
Lovely science experiment to see how there is life in leaves and flowers too. just like blood which flows in our body, kids can understand how delicate the nature is.
Craft Fun Windmill Toy Tutorial
Things Required:
- Straws
- Paper Cup
- Scissors / Paper Cutter
Make kids understand the science behind a windmill by let them making their own windmill.
Though the site in this link does not provide the How To steps but I guess you can do give it a shot or search further on YouTube or Google.
5 Easy Ways to Learn Newton's Laws
Here are some fun challenges to understand and bring into action Newton's Laws of motion.
STEM + Chocolate = The Best Kind Of Learning Fun
Things Required:
- Pizza Boxes / Shoe Boxes
- Black Construction Paper
- Aluminium Foil
- Plastic Wrap
- Scissors
- Tape
- A long Wooden Skewer or a Ruler
Now, this one is my personal favorite coz you are gonna get some smores to eat in the end. Fun to prepare and Yum to eat. And trust me, it works.
How To Make A Paper Helicopter
Things Required:
- Construction paper or card stock
- Paper Clips
- Tape
- Scissors
- Template
Easy Simple Paper Helicopters.

Toothpick Star Trick Science Experiment For Kids
Things Required:
