Swami Vivekananda laid the foundation of Ramakrishna Mission convent , Ramakrishna Mission and Vedanta Society. He represented India and Hinduism at the World Religious Conference held in Chicago, USA in 1893. When Swami Vivekananda returned from Chennai during that time his disciples had added money to go to Chicago. But when Vivekananda came to know about this, he said that all the money deposited should be distributed among the poor. Let me tell you, Swami Vivekananda had to suffer to give a speech at the World Religion Conference in Chicago (America). It was not such an easy thing to reach Chicago.
Swami Vivekananda reached Chicago five weeks before the World Religion Conference. Chicago was a very expensive city. They did not have enough money to spend. And the money they had was running out. To save ourselves from the harsh winter, one had to spend the night in a freight train parked in the yard.
