Population: New York City is home to slightly more than 8 million people. Considering the population of USA, the city is home to 1 in 38 people in the US. New York state of course has many other cities as well that are well established. There is Buffalo, Syracuse, Albany, Saratoga Springs, Staten Island, and many others.

Linguistic Diversity: New York is a very diverse area, especially with regards to language. Over 800 languages are spoken in the region, many of them from Asia. It is thus the most linguistically diverse city globally. Of 10 households, 4 speak in a language that’s not English.

Statue of Liberty: For the country’s centennial celebrations, the Statue of Liberty was gifted to the United States by the French in 1886. Being a large statue, it was shipped in 214 crates carrying the 350 pieces of the statue. Assembly of the statue lasted 4 months and was done where it currently stands, the Ellis Island. Along with the Empire State Building and searching for the best Brooklyn Pizza, the Statue Of Liberty is obviously a major tourist attraction.

UN HQ: In 1952, following the Second World War, the headquarters of the United Nations was established in the city.

Performing Arts: New York City is home to Broadway, generally considered to be the epicenter of live theatre and acting for the entire planet. Broadway hosts sensational hits like Hamilton, Hadestown, and Dear Evan Hansen among many others. New York City is also home to magnificent productions like the metropolitan Opera, Symphony Orchestra, and New York City Ballet.

Capital: New York has a rich political history. The city was initially established as the first capital of the country back in 1789.

Chess: New York hosted the very first American Chess Tournament. The tournament was held in the city in the year 1843.

Money and Technology: Long known as the financial center of the world, New York City remains among the most influential places on Earth in terms of finance. London, Dubai, Taiwan, San Francisco, and others are gaining but New York City still remains king for now.

State Park: New York hosts the Niagara Reservation, the first state park in the US.
